More About Hash

Basic Hash
Hash is not necessarily just the compressed trichnomes of cannabis. Hash is a term used to describe the active ingredients from cannabis in an extracted form, be that by shaking or rubbing the trichnomes off or soaking the plant material in a solvent. Hash can have THC concentrations in the upper 90s while most buds aren't near 10%, and thats definetely something to keep in mind when thinking about doses.

Hash can be prepared many different ways and is usually categorized according to how it was made.

Here are some common kinds of hash...
Solvent Hash - Plant material soaked in a solvent to extract the THC. The solvent is then evaporated and the THC collected. Commonly used solvents include 99% isopropyl alcohol and acetone.

Water/Ice Hash - The plant material is put into water and/or ice and shaken vigorously to cause the trichnomes to fall from the plant and gather in the water.

Butane Hash Oil "Honey Oil" - Plant material is put into a device and butane is released into it producing a highly potent oil.

Bubble hash - Hash made using bubble bags.

Kif/Kief - The trichnomes off the cannabis plant. May either be a gold-blonde powder or pressed into blocks.

Soapbar- I don’t condone smoking soapbar from the few times I have seen it. It was cut with who knows what and smelled like rotten shoe. Just run.

Butane Oil is the most potent of the preparations I listed. The THC concentration is usually up around 97% and with a good search engine you can find out how you can make pure THC relatively easy.

HOW TO SMOKE HASH.
-Always use a cushion if possible-
A cushion is a small layer of weed at the bottom of the bowl that acts as an extra screen for your hash. Many kinds of hash tend to bubble and even liquefy during the smoking process and you can easily lose it all to a bad screen.

Smoking solvent hash, water/ice hash, bubble hash, pressed trichnomes: Depending on the texture you may be able to break up a chunk and scatter it in with a bowl, if not tear a piece up and mix it in. Make sure there is weed below the hash so it can’t melt through and weed on top of the hash so the flame doesn’t get direct contact with it. Hot-knives work alright, but for me this is the simplest method and just as effective when done properly(…don’t torch the hash).

Smoking kif, powdered hash: Pretty much the same idea except load a much bigger cushion, about 2/3 the bowl, then sprinkle the kif on followed by another small layer of bud. Direct contact with a flame is something to be avoided with all types of hash.

Smoking butane oil: This stuff is so potent it only takes a couple drops. You can run a line down the center of a paper and roll up a joint and smoke it normally. But still, my personal experience has taught me that loading ½ a bowl, then a few drops, then the rest of the bowl works best. Again the no contact with a flame rule.



EASY HOW-TO HASH

This is a simple method that will give you potent solvent hash. This method is commonly referred to as “QWISO“.
Quick Wash Isopropyl.

Materials:
- 91% or 99% Isopropyl Alcohol. The higher percentage the better, because that means there is more alcohol in the mixture that the THC can be extracted by. Make sure there are no ingredients other than the isopropyl alcohol and water, anything else will spoil your hash.
- Ground up weed/stems/shake. I used to say get it as near powder as possible until somebody brought me powder and it didn’t work at all because we couldn’t strain it so grind it up really good…like to roll a joint with…but not powder.
- Jars and fine screening.
- Timer
- Plates or something for the hash to evaporate on.

Process:
Step 1 - Put the ground up weed in a jar and add the isopropyl alcohol. I used to use the ratio of 5 parts alcohol to each 1 part weed but now I go more 7 or 8 to each 1 part weed just to be safe.

Step 2 - Seal and shake. Seal the jar tightly, set the timer for TWO MINUTES*, and shake like crazy. No I mean like crazy. Like your arms should be sore.

* I say two minutes because after that pretty much all the THC has been extracted and you begin to extract other non-psychoactive chemicals that will lower the quality of your final product and give it a nasty green stem taste.

Step 3 - Pour out the alcohol onto the plates using the fine screen to strain out the plant material. You can wash it again but evaporate it on a different plate because it won’t be good hash. I just discard the plant material.

Step 4 - Let the alcohol evaporate off the plate.

Step 5 - Scrape and enjoy your hash.
