most of these are just random doodles that eventually become something bigger. I'm really into character/figure drawing and I usually begin with the head - if I create a look, expression, anything that excites me, I take the time to develop it further. Sometimes ideas just never seem to stop flowing... others it's difficult to know where to begin - my sketchbook is filled with halfway finished characters and images that I may or may not complete... it's all about having fun and occassionally learning a few things. Rarely do I begin a drawing, that's not from observation, knowing exactly what it's gonna be. Inspiration can come from anywhere - my mood, the days events, a conversation, someone else's mood or expression, a song, anything... Marijuana can help sometimes, its not necessary, but seems to make drawing an entirely different experience - making it easier to develop an image based on clashing values instead of lines defining everything (collages are fun as **** to build - smoke a bowl, put on some deftones and just let the pencil flow for a few hours) but, learning new techniques and doing more technical drawing is best left for teh soberness. | |
