His art isn't considered abstract. He is a graphic artist more than anything. When people talk about abstract art they are referring to something being abstracted, or taken away. Like a face being reduced to nothing but square shapes and circles. Or a bush that has been reduced into a shape or outline. His work is very geometric through.

ok, abstract = picasso...yeah I get that. A majority of his work is abstract, while Escher's is more along the lines of Impossibly Archetectual...I just kinda lump them together. But you do have a nice point, and most people wouldn't have picked up on my "mis" use of tha word...i should have been more clear, thanks for helping me out. It is VERY geometrical, which is one reason I think his work (and some other's) IS appealing to tha more mathematically inclined person (or powergeek as I prefer to be referred to) Either way, rep for you ![]()

Hey Collector, somewhere in the attic I have a jigsaw puzzle version of 'Drawing Hands'. Quite difficult, actually. Escher's work would be best described as altered multiple perspectives, but some of his stuff was the exploration of spacial relations (like the illustration of himself holding a chrome sphere), studies in shadow & light and repetitive use of identical shapes. His work was very progressive for its time and he's a great inspiration. ![]()
