It is actually a yellow jacket...built just like a wasp, only yellow and black. A wasp has a red body with black wings....not to take away from the fact though...that is a KICK ASS picture!!

That would be a hornet, wasps are bigger and more evul looking. I also think they have a reddish tint to them. -shiver- Seeing those mofoers up close sends tingles down my spine. They're evil little creatures, they don't even produce honey!
