| C'mon now Trocisp. I don't really work out besides hiking and lots of mountain biking, but I do think it is amazing how people can do that to their bodies. I'm a tall and skinny dude with long hair, a definite intellect. Looking at that dudes arm in the 5th picture almost freaks me out - hell half of those do, those are people who have dedicated their lives to making their bodies into a fucking machine - commendable, I find it almost akin to writing a book, or getting a degree of some sort. Just achieved through different mediums they are just lifetime culminations of all your determination, dedication and hard work. In reality it even has more applicable uses like kicking ass, picking up heavy shit, attracting mates, shredding phone books, etc.

| Pfft, my brain can shred a phone book as well as their brawn. I don't know - I couldn't ever see myself with that kind of dedication. I'd prefer to... read however many thousands of books I could read in the time it would take me to build those muscles. I wasn't implying in my other post that I thought it was stupid, just that it wasn't for me. Anyone with that kind of dedication to furthering anything in their life (including physical strength, some of us like reading, some of us 'pumping iron'). |

I don't commend or have anything good to say about any of the bodybuilders pictured in the photos. They used steroids to get that big and that initself is problematic. As someone who was once a bonafide gymrat and at one point was very involved with the use of steroids, I'd like to offer my opinion on this matter: >"picking up heavy shit": agreed. Size and strength will help you pick up heavy objects. >"shredding phone books": not so sure about that one. A skinny guy might be able to shred a phone book. I'm speculating here because I tend to think that technique is more involved with shredding a phone book than strength is, though I might be wrong. >"kicking ass": Sometimes size helps in a street fight, while at other times it's of absolutely no use. I've personally witnessed my share of street fights and have been in a few myself. What I have noticed is that there are some guys out on the street who are intimidated by a mans size. I recall one incident where I encountered a stranger on the street. He had a hostile demeanor. Ultimately he backed down. This happened a few years ago so I don't remember his exact words, but he mentioned something about my size as the reason he gave for changing his attitude. The reality is he might've been able to beat me in a street fight. I've know several pure streetfighters, guys who had alot more courage and guts than I ever had. These guys would not think twice about engaging someone on the streets of San Francisco or San Diego. One thing they all had in common was a killer instinct and a small frame. Yes, small. Or average in size. One guy who was known around town as a tough, ballsy dude couldn't come close to matching my level of strength. No matter what type of excercise we did in the weight room, I could always lift more weight than he ever could. But he had a proven track record of winning many street fights, much more than I ever engaged in. And everyone respected that. The bottom line is size doesn't mean a thing to many experienced street fighters, and neither are they the least bit daunted by someones strength. And the several pure street fighters I've known never needed alcohol to fuel their fire. Their fire all came from the heart. There are lots of UFC/MMA fighters out there who don't care all that much for lifting weights but yet still kick ass. Nick Diaz is one of them. Diaz is a marathoner, a sport more inclined towards appeasing the sporting proclivity of the skinny guy. >"attracting mates": When I was doing steroids I remember walking into a bar and people would stop and stare at me. That was pretty special. People would look at me, as people tend to do. But they would continue to stare at my yolked out body. You can't buy that kind of attention. Sounds great, doesn't it? But now I'm wiser, and realize that THE NEED for that kind of attention was foolish. It completely fed into my disease. The disease of having to be a big man. The disease that had me spending way too much time in the gym. A disease of great insecurity that went along with a complete lack of confidence. Yes, you can be big and strong yet still lack confidence in yourself. As far as attacting mates is concerned, I'm not into monogamous relationships. I prefer to date around, and I prefer whoever I'm seeing to date other people. I don't need nor do I want any ties that bind me. And I am better at meeting women now than I was when I was 40lbs heavier. And All 40 of those pounds were muscle, thanks to things like Deca-Durabolin, Sustenon-250 and Anadrol. So what I learned is that anyone who thinks that they need to be big and muscular to attract someone of the opposite sex has been buying into the crap that "Muscle and Fitness" magazine puts out. Reinforcing that point is this: God bless the Internet...i have seen men who are totally out of shape and I mean with things like huge pot bellies and a major loss of hair engaged in sex and love (yes, love) with women who would be ranked a 7,8,9 or a 10 on the looks scale. In some of these cases the men were 10-20 years older than the woman. I never knew my father. So maybe other guys out there were taught a lesson by their own fathers that I was never taught. The lesson that teaches that there are certain women out there who will defy logic, defy sound thinking, defy common wisdom. The logic that says that hot looking women only go for hot looking men. That logic is just not true. I've seen otherwise, thanks to the Internet. I'm an orphan. The Internet has taught me lessons that I missed out on by not having a father. That's why I say, "Thank God for the Internet." Alot of bodybuilders have a disease. That disease is reverse anorexica, also known as muscle dysmorphia. No matter how big they are, someone who is plagued with muscle dysmorphia can never be big enough. Inside their head a voice is telling them that they are small and they must work out harder, work out longer and eat more meals per day just to add 1/8th of an inch to their biceps. And you know what's crazy? They'll work out for years and never add any size to their biceps, probrably because they've hit their genetic plateau, (something every gym rat has to deal with because you can't keep getting big in linear fashion) yet they'll still keep working out because they're programmed to "just get big" no matter what. And as for the guy who trains like an animal 7 days a week yet can't add a measely 1/8th of an inch to his biceps because after years of training he's finally hit his genetic ceiling, he has a very workable plan B to fall back on that's pretty much available to everyone out there in the real world. Yep, you guessed it. In order to blast through his plateau he reaches for the magic potion, steroids. Just like some of the guys pictured in this threads thread starter did. Now whenever I see a steroided-out bodybuilder I realize that I'm looking at a very insecure individual. An individual who is over compensating due to the heavy holes in their heart and a mind that cannot totally accept who they are as a person. Of course Muscle and Fitness magazine would have you think otherwise, as would the thousands of steroid users over at Bodybuilding.com. Some of the same individuals who'll tell you that bodybuilding is a "healthy lifestyle." ![]() Last edited by Createrson : 09-25-2007 at 06:12 PM.

Seriously you know nothing and shouldnt attempt to look smart or criticize what other people do with their life. Please never respond to what I write ever again. Thank you. ![]() Bodybuilding is a large part of my life and I don't take steroids. There are many benefits to it and not a single drawback. Don't abuse your body and you'll be fine.

Steroids can cause 'Roid rage, heart attack (in less than a year of constant use), where being fat can only cause a heart attack after years of constantly... being fat. Not to mention - being overweight and getting regular exercise is better for you than fluctuating weights up and down. Steroids are much worse for you than being overweight. Quote:
And, if you can't take people posting differing opinions, you shouldn't post on a public forum. Especially not one like this, where opinions that differ from the norm, are the norm. Quote:
Not a single drawback? Ever heard of Overtreaining? * Persistent muscle soreness (Delayed onset muscle soreness) * Persistent fatigue * Elevated resting heart rate * Increased susceptibility to infections * Increased incidence of injuries * Irritability * Depression * Loss of motivation * Insomnia * Decreased appetite * Decreased sexual performance * Weight loss There are drawbacks to everything - don't let anyone ever tell you there aren't. Anyone who says something is only good and no bad either is lying or doesn't understand critical thinking.

| First thing that comes to my skinny little mind is the harm done by steroids and dedication gone amuck. No offense meant. |

| I work out 4-5 times a week but it is mostly just to keep myself as healthy as I want to be. While using steroids and bodybuilding might be ridiculous and unnecessary, losing a couple of pounds can do wonders for one's confidence.
