North Dakota’s Medical Marijuana Program

Last night, a whopping 63% of residents in the Peace Garden State showed empathy to patients in need.

“It was a lot of hard work, by a lot of people in North Dakota and we’re very pleased,” said Rilie Ray Morgan, the Chairperson behind the ballot measure in an interview today with Marijuana.com.

Morgan went on to detail what comes next, now that the win has been achieved. “The Department of Health will have 30 days to start working on the measure. They are going to have to get some funding from our legislature.”

Morgan added that the legislature will be meeting about this right after the first of the year. “[They will] appropriate some funds for staffing, new hires, computer systems, etc. It’s going to probably be 90 to 120 days for them to get all of that done.”

After the initial red tape for the new green medicine, the appropriate organizations can apply to become dispensaries or cultivators. Those organizations must be non-profits and they pay for the license if and when approved.

The big question is, of course, when will North Dakotans who need marijuana medicine be able to get it without breaking the law?

“At the very earliest nine months, but I’d say more like a year before it comes full circle.”

Patients will be required to register and get an identification card after receiving a prescription from their doctor. Everything in regards to inventory, dispensing and cultivation of medical marijuana will be enforced by the North Dakota Department of Health.

A patient with a valid prescription can receive up to three ounces of marijuana. Further to this measure, patients who live at least forty miles from the nearest facility are permitted to grow their own. The grow your own option is the big difference that separates North Dakota from the other red states that legalized this November. In Arkansas, proponents removed the grow your own option from their bill because it was reported to have killed a similar bill in a previous attempt.

For a long time, it was predicted that North Dakota would have the wisdom to be open to the world’s most powerful natural medicine and that wisdom was verified at the polls yesterday. Now, North Dakotans will have a whole new dimension of medical care — all it took was a dedicated team and 209,787 yes votes.

Well done.

  1. PUBLICDEFENDERS on

they must move quickly not 9-12 months I struggle with a form of complex PTSD and the ad thoughts may not wait that long. there’s statics showing veterans with PTSD commit suciside daily and I was arrested and charged for marijuana manufacturing on may 13th 2015, in ward county, in a violation of my civil rights under the 4th amendment, and worse than that I have the evidence to prove that the sheriffs deputies broke the law and illegaly entered and searched without a warrant claiming it was a welfare check, witch happened at 10:30 am and in the discovery (a report used in court to prosecute witch is a report from the officers themselves) page 8 is a from titled drug investigation the complaintant my brother who called 3 times at 8:30am page * was signed my one of the officers that entered my home at aproximatly 8:34 the 3 calls my brother made saying I called my mother at 12:45am crying wanting to talk about old family issues he claimed I was making sucidial idealations THE DISPATCH ASKED WAS IT THREATS OF SUSCIDE HE REPLIED NO. his call was listed as LOW PROIRITY.he called back trying to force police to act. that was the same outcome, LOW PRIORITY, ON HIS THIRD CALL HE MADE FALSE CLAIMS THAT I HAD PRIOR HISTORY OF PILLS, AND POWERS. acting on tat call in a illegal manor the deputies found where I lived 9 hours 45 min after calls and saw me threw window (pretty easy to see I was breathing) they claimed they knocked but I would’ve woken from sleeping in silent house out in country and I woke up due to a flashlight in my room.
they told my I had to come outside, and before I could understand what was going on and why they were inside my home they used gestopo tacktics to continue to violate my civil rights after I said I needed a lawyer the keep questioning me. and to further the BROKEN LEGAL SYSTEM. PUBLIC DEFENDERS REFUSED TO FILE TIMLY MOTIONS AS I REQUESTED ABND RECORDED. and told him to articulate it as I told him the
true way they, my rights were violated he did not, MEANING HE DID NOT DO HIS DUTY WHICH IS TO DO THE BEST POSSIBLE JOB FOR HIS CLIENT, BUT WHEN USING A PUBLIC DEFENDER DUE TO FINANCIAL HARDSHIPS, you never get them to do the fullest, so often innocent poor people get wrongfully convicted, in my situation I was mearly trying to medicate myself due to family issues that have wrongfully caused my family to ex communicate me I haven’t had a thanksgiving or Christmas with family or anyone due to PTSD for 13 years, FINALY THE STATE REALIZES THIS IS A BENIFITUAL MEDICTION AND SAVES LIVES, yet I have to finish court on November 23th in Minot arrested and jailed due to police not following the law as they are suppose to due, and represented by public council that would not do his duty, claiming on recorded call “you don’t want to see these officers get into trouble for trying to help you” they were not there to help me they were there to investigate if there was drugs. the doctrine called FRUIT FROM A POISONUS TREE means no evidence can be allowed in court if it was discovered due to police breaking the law. yet they want to put me in jail. and force me to appeal to supreme court after ive served their jail time FOR HAVING PTSD AND TRYING TO FORGET THE WRONG DOING OF FAMILY THAT ATTACKED ME AND TOOK A PAWN SHOP I FOUNDED AND A BROTHER THAT CHARGED ME WITH TERROSTIC THREATS ” A FELONY” THAT I DIDNT CHARGE HIM WITH 2 WEEKS PRIOR, AND HE REFUSED TO SURRENDED THE SURVALIANCE VIDEO OF HIM INSTIGATING THE SITUATION. SOMEONE PLEASE HELP ME GET FAIR JUSTICE IM NOT AT ALL ANY KIND OF VIOLENT PERSON but due to a paralyzed right side of my face others thnk I’m mad about things. even my family, and I think it ply a part in how police and public defenders see me, but I’m far from stupid I’m pretty smart, but I cant force the legal system to follow their own rules and do their duty. THIS IS THE BROKEN SYSTEM THAT NEEDS TO BE FIXED. AND I shouldn’t be further punished in life for trying to use a natural medication to relieve my suffering. PLEASE HELP ME STOP THIS MAYHAM AND MALISIOUS PROCECTION.
