| Ok.....I just read the post where you stated that you were a professional (I'm assuming in hair).....So I just had a quick question regarding that issue. I have already bleached and redyed my hair (about one week ago). I was dirty blonde (with a few pale red highlights) to begin with, but after the bleaching it was like bright orange, with a lot of white. So I then decided to redye it to a blonde. I went to Sallys and the girl told me to get a color with a base that was neutral (not blue or red). I also bought an orange remover packet that you mix with the dye. I used a 30 developer (I think this is where my problem occured?)...so after the dye job it is SO orangey and fake looking. I've decided that this weekend (about 3 days before my hair test) that i'm going to bleach and redye it again....I guess I would just like to know what would be the best kind of color (with the right base and developer) in order to get a natural looking light brown color. If you are able to help me out that would be great. On a side note to anyone else......I'll be 28 days clean on the day of my test date (used about 7 times in the past 3 months--light sessions)....I have thin blondish hair (23 yr old female)...I've been washing with T/Sal and PM3 for almost 2 weeks now (with about 4 mac methods in between there). I've already bleached and redyed my hair about a week ago, and since I'm planning on bleaching and redying my hair closer to my test date, and using Zydot the day of.....do you think I should try and do a few more Mac methods in there? Sorry! This was waaaaay longer than I planned. Thanks for taking the time to read and respond! |

| Ok, so it sounds like your red highlights didn't lift as well as the dirty blond hair did, but that's fine. Red stains the hair and that's what probably brought the orange. I don't know what bleach you used the first time. I do strongly suggest a powder bleach(I use Wellite Powder Lightener that you can buy at Sallys) because it does the most damage and it lifts most effectively. Use a 40 Volume cream developer. Bear in mind any water on the hair will stop the bleach from doing its thing. Bleach it till its pretty white. A good test to see exactly how much has lifted is to rub a damp paper towel on a little bit of hair to see whats going on under the bleach. When you go to redye, I suggest Wella Color Charm Gel color that is also at Sallys. To get a dark blond/ light brown I suggest probably a 7N(possibly an 8N use your judgment on what shade you are looking for). Basically Hair Color runs on a 1 - 10 scale, 1 being jet black and 10 being platinum blond. When you bleach your hair and then re-dye it tends to pull darker than you are planning. So plan a step lighter than you might normally. The girl at Sally's was right in telling you to use a neutral base. The nice thing about that particular color line is that its dependable and when used correctly creates dependable results. Use a 20 Volume Developer with the deposit color(again cream developer) and leave it on for around 25-30 minutes. Its a slower developer and can take more time, but penetrates deeper into your hair and will last longer and give you a good result. You can also use the damp paper towel and rub the dye off a bit of hair to see if its done. You should be able to tell pretty easily weather it looks chalky or not. I don't think you should need a toner if you are looking for a light brown. If you wanted to be blond, you would but toners are tricky and yellow and orange are two different things. It's possible to tone with just depositing a neutral color. Another general tip: Try not to comb or scrub or anything at your scalp before you bleach, it's better to bleach hair that is a little dirty rather than freshly washed. This allows the dead skin on your scalp to protect you from chemical burns. I hope this is helpful, if you have other questions please let me know! |
