hi, new here and will be taking the dreaded hair test in the near future (date unknown as of yet). am 26yr old female, was clean for a year but started smoking again in march after death of a friend. smoked march 19th til may 16th, estimate about 15-20 times, usually mid grade, hash once. so mod/heavy user & been clean almost 30days now. anyhow, did my research guess im just looking for reassurance to calm the paranoia. my main concern is bleaching vs relaxers & the success rate of the latter. bleaching is out of the question for me for various reasons. So, I started doin the mac method and am relaxing my hair tonight. also found Clairol "Perfect10" hair color at walgreens that has Both peroxide & ammonia in it, and plan on dyeing my hair later on. got Omnicleansing (couldn't find TW) shampoo to wash hair with before neutralizer. also got a pack of zydot for morning of the test. other supplies are Ion's swimmers shampoo & conditioner as well as T-sal shampoo. Also bought packets of Ion's crystal clarifying treatment and Ion's reconstructor treatment because PG is the 2nd ingredient listed. What do you guys think of this plan/my chances of passing? Any other suggestions since i cant bleach? I know quite a few people have used the relaxer but how does it compare to the bleach/redye method?

I think the relaxer will be effective for you. use caution with the relaxer though....they are serious chemicals. in general, colors that have lift and deposit all in one are ineffective. Especially ones that are available to the general public. Some professional products(redkin has a decent one out) sort of work to lift and deposit but i have seen scary things come of it. The Ion clarifying treatment is a product I'mnot familiar with, but its a pretty good brand overall. good luck!

I did a relaxer last night. What do you mean by that? Do you mean the conditioning it does at the end is in the same mix as the relaxer? | |

thanks for the responses (and to everyone who has posted to help me formulate this plan)! my friend used to work in a salon so she will actually be doing the relaxer for me and washing it out with Omni. i think she is more worried about the effects on my hair than i am, lol. i wasn't too sure if the dye would make a difference (that or the mac method) but i figured why not at this point? i will keep y'all posted on the results.

no the relaxer is not the same as any kind of conditioner. I was referring to the hair color that has peroxide in it(that would lighten your hair) it just doesnt take anything out of your hair and is probably not helpful at all.
