I believe I have the worst luck in the world. 2 months ago completely out of the blue, I was laid off from a great job. They only did pre-employment testing not randoms so I was pretty much an every day smoker. After I was laid off, I quit smoking as I knew I was going to have to be tested for any job. Well, after 2 months of job searching and a dozen interviews, this morning I got a call and I have finally been offered a job. They asked that I come in first thing Monday morning so I can get the paperwork to go and have a HAIR SAMPLE taken for testing!!!! Holy crap!!!! I am freaking out. I can pass any urine test right now, BUT HAIR!!!! I have been doing all the research I can and came accross this forum which seems to be the best place for information that I have found.

I have been reading on this forum what has worked and what hasn't and I simply don't have enough time to use the methods that seem to work the best. I guess I am going to try to bleach and dye once as my wife says that I can only do it once a week or my hair will fall out. I have not been able to find a place where I can buy Zydot. I wear my hair very very short (flat top) and just got a hair cut yesterday so the longest hair I have on my head is about 1/2 - 3/4 of an inch. I get the feeling that this is too short for them to take a sample and they will want to take body hair. I am a pretty hair guy with hair over an inch long all over my chest and back. I want to trim my body real short to try to force them to take hair from my head. I am going to shave my arm pits and say I have a body odor problem if they ask. I did read on one board that they will take pubes if everything is too short and will let me go into a bathroom and cut the sample myself at which time I could feasibly give a clean sample (substituted from my wife). I just do not know if that is true.

So basically, I feel like I am screwed and that nothing I am going to try is going to work. I desperately need this job. What do you guys think? Do I have a chance at all? Thanks to you all!!

It is against protocol to:

1. take pubic hair
2. allow the donor to cut their own hair (No matter where it is cut from)

I think the hair you have on your head is clean. I wouldn't worry about treating that.

Get the clippers out and trim all your body hair down to 1/2 inch long, no longer. That way, your body hair will be clean as well and it won't look like you tried to force them to do anything.

60 days is a long time to grow clean hair.

Thanks for the vote of confidence Sec! I guess my biggest worry right now is that my hair will be too short and that they will be suspicous of me combined with the fact that I am just not sure that my hair will be clean even that short. 1 ppm is not much at all. It is pretty much a case of it's there or it's not. No grey area. I spoke with a friend of a friend who works at a lab and she said that 3/4 of an inch is about the shortest they will take and at that length they will be seeing 30-45 days. This boosts my confidence somewhat, as I have not smoked in 60 days and have had 2 haircuts in between, but I wish there was something I could do in this short period of time to give me a better chance of passing. I am cutting it very close. This is really stressing me out. I need this job very badly.

Once again Sec, I thank you for your input. I knew that the pubic hair thing sounded too good to be true. I have also thought about offering the collector a couple hundred bucks on the down low to take a substitute sample, but my wife thinks this not to be a good idea. I know if I was the collector and someone was offering me a nice wad of cash, I would take it. What do you think?

I agree with SEC. Trim your body hair to a length that is 1/2 inch no longer. Also many people shave their armpit hairs, its not an uncommon thing. I believe that that lab tech will most likely use head hair as a first choice anyway. If you have 60 days clean and have cut your hair several times since then any new hair will be free of THC. I had a hair test and the tech cut my hair from my head with it only being maybe an inch long. I also made sure that my body hair was too short to take from anywhere else by shaving it off a month before. I good trim of your body hair would do the same for you. I was 76 days clean at that time. I passed my test.

Interestingly, three years ago I was applying for this job and had to take a hair test. I had trimmed all my hair too short for a test. The lab tech tried to hand my a pair a scissors and told me to I could go into the washroom and clip pubic hair. Like SEC said, this would be against protocol because it gives the donor time alone to substitute the sample. But she did do it.

What is the significance of the 1/2" threshold? If body hair holds up to a year of history, wouldn't 1/2" likely exceed 90 days (given that most body - outside pubes and pits - is only about 1" long)?

I know when I shave my legs, in winter if I don't shave, the length can easily be about 1/2 inch in 60 days. The reason for keeping that length, is to get rid of the "dirty" sections of your body hair, but still keep some length so they don't think you actually shaved.

Plus, your body hair takes much more abuse than you head hair with constant rubbing on clothing, etc... That damages the hair shaft a bit and hopefully allows any THC to excape through the cracks and splits in the hair shaft. Any hair that is over 90 days or so old should be pretty much damaged and degraded to be able to obtain any THC from there.

Keep in mind, this is my guess. I didn't do any scientific tests to back this up or anything. I have read here for several years and last night I slept in a holiday Inn.....

I just wanted to say you can bleach and dye your hair twice in the same day or week and nothing will fall off.

First of all, I want to thank you all for your input and advice. I went to take my test today and I must say that the absolute best case scenario happened to me!!! I have been clean 61 days. I trimmed the hair on my head to 3/4 of an inch, made sure that I didn't have another hair on my body longer than 1/2", and I shaved my pits. I also sewed a pouch into my underwear with some of my wifes pubes in it to substitute just in case they would take pubes. Basically, I was as prepared as I could be with 3 days notice of the test. The hiring manager saw me and said that the hair on my head looked short but hopefully would be enough.

So, I went down to the testing place and sure enough, they told me my hair on my head was too short. I asked them how long they needed and they said 2". I replied that I did not have any hair on my body that was 2" long except for maybe pubes (which my wife's were only about an 1 to 1-1/2. They said they don't take pubes and would call the employer to see if they would take urine. I jumped for joy inside when they came back and said I could pee!!!!!!!!!! As I mentioned, I have been clean for 2 months. I also tested negative on 2 home tests a few weeks ago. I AM THRILLED!!! I can't believe my luck. After being out of work for so long, it looks as if I am headed back to gainful employment. HOORAY! Thank you all for your support! Congrats on getting a urine test instead of a hair test. My company has done away with all urine testing and tests hair only. No hair, no test, no job. The only other test they use is a saliva test if you are suspected of being under the influence on the job. They are tough on alcohol too. If you have a conviction of DWI in the last 5 years.....no job.
