I got to thinking about this since I am hunting a job right now and was reading through this forum.

Due to going bald a bit young I began buzzing the hair on my head about three and a half years ago. Luckily I actually look better without hair than with according to popular opinion lol. Anyway, I don't shave it to the skin as it irritates my scalp too much but I use clippers without a guard so it's ~1/16" when I'm done and I recut it when it hits about 1/4". However I don't look nearly as clean-cut/well-groomed when it is this long and I like to look my best for an interview.Would this throw up a red flag to a potential employer and cause them to have me submit to a hair test because they thought I was trying to get out of one?

I have a goatee so it's not like my head is totally bald (not counting nostril hair HA and eyebrows) but I'm concerned that they may send me for a hair test instead of a typical urine test based on my looks. Any reason to worry about this? If so that's really going to suck...

If your head hair is too short for a hair test, they'll take pubic hair, axillary hair, or other body hair. If you shave off all of your body hair, they can take fingernail parings.

Thanks Buzzby, I was aware of the other potential sources but my question was if they see my head hair is extremely short would they possibly send me for a hair test when standard practice is a urine test? I.e., "Ah, he's trying to hide something...but maybe we know something he doesn't and that is we can use OTHER hair! mwahahahah! *added for comical effect*"

It seems rather unlikely to me. UAs are cheap. Hair tests are expensive. If UAs are the standard practice, I don't think they would make a special exception for you. The shaved-head look is not all that uncommon these days.

however... IF they want to do a hair test.. they will go for areas that have a longer history and harder to treat,,, good luck...
