I work for a contracting company and had to take a drug test for this new company I might be contracted out to. I took the test at the beginning of May but didn't know what type of test it would be. I bought some random shampoo (I think it was called "Test'in") just on the off chance it was a hair test and that's what it ended up being. I didn't hear anything back, so I just assumed that I passed.

Well I just found out today that apparently I failed. They said it was no big deal, but I need to get retested at the end of July. So I will have about 45-50 days to clean up after smoking a few times a day for the past couple of months. I'm 6' male, 155 lbs w/ dark brown hair. What can I do to make 100% sure I pass the test this time? I know I can't pass legitimately, but do I have enough time that I should be able to pass with a better shampoo / some other method?

Well first off, 50 days should give you close to an inch of clean hair...

After that I'd recommend a couple bleach and redyes. Also, I think its really important to get out in the sun and let nature do its job with destroying the THC metabolites. UV rays damage the hair at the structural level and degrades THC quite a bit.

There was a link to an article on here somewhere about how they did a study on the effects of sunlight in regards to hair testing. After 10 minutes alone, the sun managed to destroy 23% of the THC metabolites.

I took two hair tests last year and failed once. The first time I passed, and I credit part of it to working outside.... and 2 bleach and redyes as well. The second test I took was hair that had grown during the winter when I wasn't outside a whole lot.

Just remember that THC is the most difficult drug for hair analysis to detect. THC doesn't incorporate itself into the hair as easily as other drugs do... and when it does manage to bind, it's also easier than other drugs to remove from the hair as well.

I'd so, go swimming as often as you can in chlorinated water and get out in the sun as much as possible, and keep your hair short in addition to bleaching and redying...throw in some MACs for good measure too. You should easily pass this time if you do that.

Wish my hubby had more time to get into the sun like this as well. Test is monday... doing some Mac treatments and some bleach/redyes and maybe even a relaxer. After 2 Mac's hair feels like straw. Only 23 days clean at time of the test. Very light user, maybe it will help.....

Looks like I lucked out and somehow the end of July turned into the end of September . So I need to go take my test by the end of next week, which will be like 105-110 days since I stopped smoking. As I thought I would have far less time than I ended up with, I have bleached my hair three times. I also tried to measure how fast my hair grows, and it's something like .65 inches / month +/- .05 inches.

I am guessing I should have no problem passing at this point, right? Is there anything I should do just to make sure? I'm going to get a haircut a few days before I go for the test just to be sure all my hair should be clean. Should I get some shampoo for before the test like Zydot or something just to be safe? If they take the hair from my leg, will I still pass? I think that body hair grows slower than hair on your head... is that right? Sorry for all the questions, I know I should probably be okay, but I'm freaking out a bit because if I fail then I am going to be fired. Thanks!

Well..considering the time and the 3 bleach and redyes..the historical info would say you are looking good.

As far as the Zydot, my thought is if you can, do it. But it does sound like it would be overkill.

As long as you have a decent length on your head, I think that is always preferred over leg hair.

Thanks for the reply Invaded. I should have like 1.8 inches of clean hair by this point, so I am probably going to trim my hair down to slightly more than 1.5 inches before I go in for the test. I may trim my body hair too just so they can't take that for whatever reason.

If I use the Zydot, it can't be detected, can it? I don't want to end up failing for trying to "cheat" the test when I can probably pass without it...

That's a great question. The historical info on the board will show a few different people asking this same thing, and then board experts answering that they test for drug metabolites, not shampoo or anything that's in shampoo. Just do a forum search for 'zydot'.

That makes sense. I have no idea where the myth began, but it doesnt seem like such a big deal until the day of your test approaches and you start to get paranoid.

I know they wash the hair, they could certainly analyze the water after they wash the hair for any external contaminants. I don't know if they do this, or what they'd do with the information if they did.

The myth came from the testing companies. Read their websites, they claim they can detect bleaching and dying too. We have no documented case of anyone being busted for any treatments we endorse here.

Wow... so I went for my test today, and they gave me a urine test! I have no idea what is going on.. don't understand why they would give me a hair test last time and a urine test this time? Is it possible that they gave me the wrong type of test? Anyway, I haven't smoked in 110 days, so it looks I should be good to pass!

Very thorough testing calls for a urine test to back up the hair test so to show very recent usage...

Unusual, but not unheard of. It normally happens in child custody cases...
