Hello all. Been doing a lot of research today hoping to feel confident that I'm going about this correctly. For a promotion at work I potentially could have a hair test coming in the next 2-3 weeks Me: Will be clean 2-3 weeks prior to test. Male, 270lbs, 6ft. 2 month daily smoker up to yesterday. I would guess light to medium since it takes me a month and a half to get through a 1/4 bag. Method: Decided to go with Jerry G's method. I am going to bleach and re-dye 3 times minimum-once a week until the test. First bleach today. Zydot Ultra Clean on test day. My question is about the Toxin Wash. I understand that the main point of using it is the amount of propylene glycol in it based on what I've read. I've also read that as a substitute you can use other clarifying shampoo with propylene glycol as an ingredient. What I am wondering is, can I use a conditioner/thermal treatment with propylene glycol as the 2nd ingredient instead of the toxin wash? Does it absolutely have to be the shampoo? I also have some hair gel with propylene glycol as the 2nd ingredient which I am going to use daily to style. Is prolonged exposure a necessity? How often should I soak with baking soda paste? Can anybody recommend a particular shampoo that is really strong and does the job? I should also add that I am not planning to use any other products that aren't already mentioned (i.e. T-Sal, Aloe Rid, Clean & Clear, Tide, Vinegar, since these are part of the Mac method which can apparently work against Jerry G's method). Everybody seems to be using all these other products in conjunction with bleaching & redye and I just don't see the necessity if what Jerry G says is true. Who has passed or failed based on the method I am planning to try? Anybody used the propylene glycol conditioner and hair gel instead of the shampoo? Sorry in advance if I repeated things mentioned previously in other posts. So many of them were from people who were under 200lbs and last smoked 30-50 days before their test so I was afraid nothing really fit my situation. This is a huge deal as I could potentially lose my job which obviously I cannot afford to have happen especially with all the layoffs in my town and the fact that everybody hair tests here and nobody is hiring here.

It's been two years since I posted my method of passing a hair strand test. Because of this site, I would do things just a bit differently than I did two years ago. I believe from results posted here that the bleaches and redyes are what do the trick. I would do that process three times. I no longer think PG is key after reading bittermike's post(in the stickied cleansing method thread). It appears amine based products are what really help. Both TW and Zydot contain these ingredients. So do dish soaps and detergents. You will have to decide for yourself who has credible information here. Read the results thread going back two years. Read the posts by keggs and bittermike in the cleansing methods thread. They have done a lot of research and have generously shared it with us. Based on those two posts, if I were to use a shampoo, I would pretreat with milk of magnesia, and use dawn or tide as a shampoo. Based on my personal experience(see my very first post), as well as well documented evidence in the results thread, I would still not mess with the Mac...

Thanks Jerry, that advice is definitely useful to me. I did see the other posts you referred to but I missed some of the key points the first time through. Part of my goal was to eliminate the Toxin Wash from the routine as it's expensive and if an amine based household product may be used instead all the better. But that's just my interpretation of what I have read. Based on what I've read I am altering my method as follows... 1. Soak in Milk of Magnesia for 20 mins (to open cuticle) and shampoo with Tide just before a bleaching. (To make the hair more porous and allow it to react better with the bleaching). Note I am NOT doing the Mac method so I shouldn't have to worry about chemical burns during the bleaching process due to shampooing immediately prior as noted on the Cleansing Methods thread. 2. After bleaching, shampoo with Tide, followed by a shampoo of my choosing and a conditioner treatment with high PG %. 3. Later on, re-dye followed again by shampoo with Tide, shampoo of my choosing and conditioner treatment with high PG %. I will repeat these three steps at least 2 more times before the test, spaced out a week apart, with a couple of milk of magnesia and Tide sessions in between and a Zydot on test day. Think that will be enough to seal the deal? I mentioned this was a possible pre-promotion test so I wonder if they use different testing methods for pre-employment vs promotion. Are urine tests cheaper than hair? We use Quest Diagnostics. Guess I need to be prepared for either one just in case. Thanks again.

My smoking history was similar to yours (probably even more) and I just passed today. I didn't use any toxinwash. Seemed too expensive for nothing really. Instead I relied on swimmers shampoo and conditioner available at Sally's Beauty Supply along with all Jerry G's input. See what I did: http://www.marijuana.com/blood-hair-...itive-114.html Good Luck!

The vinegar and C+C are supposed to open up the hair for the detergent... but acids don't open up the hair cuticle. I think vinegar is probably good for stripping dirt, oil, and hairspray, etc from the hair but thats about it. | |
