| I've posted about this in different threads with little/no feedback. It's been said on this board that the redye is mostly done to conceal a bleaching, as to appear normal to coworkers, etc. I am of the opinion that dyeing is an effect treatment in decreasing metabolites. There is that Spanish article that's often quoted for evidence of the Jerry G method. It has one sentence in there that says "These differences depended not only on the type of cosmetic treatment, as bleaching produced higher decreases than dyeing, but also on the degree of hair damage i.e. the more damaged the hair, the larger the differences in the concentration levels of drugs" That sentence alone implies that dyeing does have an impact on the level of metabolites. Think about it like this: Dyes have high amounts of ammonia, which is activated by the developer. Ammonia is very high on the PH scale, it's like around 12 or so. Using a 20 developer helps the ammonia based dye open up the cuticle, and it allows you to insert and take away color from the melanin within the CORTEX. That's where we want to get..the cortex..and I believe dyeing your hair opens up the cuticle enough to where you have access to the inside of the cortex. Injecting inside to the cortex with the dye allows color to bind to the melanin in the hair. Then you have the chance to use some harsh shampoos to help even more, after you rinse the dye out. Thoughts? |

| I completely agree with you on this. The reason for my re-dye's were to damage my hair further with the ammonia in the dye, not for the color itself. For the people who post, "the redye is mostly done to conceal a bleaching, as to appear normal to coworkers, etc." they are correct in the sense of concealment, but the re-dye's are a very important step in the bleach/re-dye process; skipping the re-dye's based on the statement above would be a misinformed faux paux. |

| Found this quote from ReeferSadness, who seemed to be a pretty smart poster. It was in this thread, with the fulltext article in the first post. http://www.marijuana.com/blood-hair-...have-read.html Quote:
