hi all...i am 43 yr old female...have smoked pot forever...after 13 yrs in high paying position i had to reenter the "search for employment field"...being from las vegas = low and behold the hair test...i have not smoked since 4/11 and thinking i was safe submitted to hair test on 7/25 and failed...BIG lost opportunity...used nothing in preparation thinking i was out of the alleged 90 day detection window...no such luck...on 8/4 another BIG opportunity was presented to me much to my excitement and dismay and another hair test...this time i soaked my past the shoulder length brown w/blond highlights hair in a gallon of vinegar as directed on package and shampooed 2x with test pure...i took test late in afternoon on 8/4 and have heard nothing as of this date regarding neg or positive results from hopefully future employer...please tell me if i have a glimpse of hope of passing or at least when this nightmare of testing positive will end...any/all input is needed will be heeded and is truly appreciated... i am nervous wreck!!

First, I’m really sorry you failed the test. No one who’s been clean since last April deserves that to happen. Hopefully the preparation you did for the second test will help you to pass. I think however, that many people when faced with a hair test expect to pass if they can just abstain for 90 days or longer, since that’s the detection period claimed by the labs. Their mistake is that they don’t take into consideration another factor which is just as important: the length of their hair. You mentioned that you have smoked pot forever and have past the shoulder length hair. Unfortunately that means you’re giving the lab a much longer detection window than just 90 days, if they test a hair sample close to the end of your hair. I’m willing to bet that’s why you failed the test. The hair that grew out over the last 90 days when you stopped smoking (up to about 1 ½ inches from your scalp) was clean, but they tested a sample closer to the end of your hair that had grown out at a time when you were still smoking. The only time the 90 day period really means anything, is when someone has stopped smoking for 90 days, AND their hair length has been cut to no longer than 1 ½ inches (about 90 days worth of growth). In other words, to be completely safe you have to cut off all the evidence that grew out when you were smoking! Like it or not, that’s why the hair test can completely screw people who choose to have longer hair.

Hey! I have learned quite a bit just by reading the previous posts. If it weren't for this site and the people who contribute too it, i think that i would have been so stressed my hair would have fallen out (like i'd be so lucky!) All i can say is good luck and to anyone who is going through this i will keep my fingers crossed for you! Good luck, we all need it! including me!
