I have not smoked since March 1 2004, today August 11 2004 that's 164 days I took a pre-employment hair test....my hair is about 3 inches long, will I pass??? Before March 1 2004 I was a heavy smoker for 2 1/2 years...

no problem, not even worth worrying about, they can only go back 90 days.

I thought I read the only thing that kept them from going back as far as they want is the length of the hair....is that wrong???

Hair grows about 1/2 inch per month. Technically they could go back 6 months in your hair, but most companies only look 90 days. You could cut your hair, but make sure you have 1 1/2 inches left or they may take from elsewhere on your body.

already took the test, my hair was about 3 inches long.....it had been 164 days since last smoke....

it's ok. I read where they can go back to 6 months depending on the length of the hair. but I read an interview with the guy who runs the company who has the patent on drug testing, and he says they do an inch and a half to look for drug use in the past 90 days. I don't think companies want to pay for more than that to be tested. and you've been clean for over 5 months, so you are pretty good. I'm sure people have past who've barely been clean for 90 days
