Hey fellas,

Well, let me introduce myself.

......no personal information....nevermind, lol

Anyway, the reason I am posting this is because I work at a supermarket store called Publix. Now, I have been with this company for 3 years, and the only time I've ever been drug tested was when I first got hired.

I smoke wisely. I have it set up so I have 2 days off a week, generally one in the middle, like Wednesday or something, and then Saturday. I used to smoke daily, then it started to get me a little weirded out. (You know, the whole "Are they going to drug test me today?"). This resulted in me smoking just 2 times a week.

I have been promoted to stock crew about 8 months back, and now I'm finally really going up in the company. I do know that there are other jobs out there, but I really like working here and if you or somebody you know ever worked at Publix, the benefits after working there for 5 years are GREAT. (Employee stock, 401k, etc....it's one of the top 100 companies to work for because of this).

I know for a fact that we do random drug testing, and it is generally picked by a computer. I have NEVER gone to work high, or anything like that so they have no reason to pick me personally. It has to be done by the computer.

I normally smoked the night before I have my day off. So let's say me and my buddies are hitting the green, we are done by 12 at night. I have that whole day off, and generally I don't go to work until 9am the day after my day off.

I just don't want to lose my job. But on the other hand, I don't want to give up something that calms my nerves and actually motivates me to go BACK to work.

Anybody here work at Publix as well?

I smoked on the night before my day off, and then go back to work around 30-36 hours later. Should I really even worry about it? (Saliva testing). Would I really lose my job....could I deny it? Help me out

Reply back fellas, need your thoughts, and what not. I am a hard-working and honorable worker... always on time, never missing a day. Whatever I do on my days off is no concern but my own....too bad the company doesn't see it that way...

Edit: I am 6'1, about 150lbs, and have a VERY high metabolism....if this helps? I also brush, floss, and rinse (mouthwash) at least 3 times a day (F**king cavities, don't need anymore, lol). And smoke a pack or two of cigarettes a day.

the thc detection period for saliva tests begins to drop off on a curve after 12 hours and is supposed to only detect for a max of 24 hours... but exceptions of up to 48 hours for chronic smokers have been reported. so 30-36 hours should really be fine. but if keeping that job is worth $20 to ya, then order yourself a saliva drug test and pretest yourself, if it is says you're still positive before work, then you could call in sick that day... you can find them on google or ebay, here's one for example: http://cgi.ebay.com/ws/eBayISAPI.dll...sPageName=WDVW

I would bet that if you took the test 24 hours after toking, you will pass. Wash your mouth good, and take mints right before the test. It's standard procedure for Ralph's and Publix at this point. It's for their Workmens Comp Insurance.

The thing is, because it's random, I'll never know. It may happen, it probably won't, but I like to play it safe.I smoked before my day off....so there's atleast a 29 hour gap always, and I mean always.

One good way to look at it, it's a good time to brush up on some good hygeine, ya know? Lol....

If you were to take a few to relax and brush, floss, and brush before you go to sleep at night and when get up for work, you MIGHT NOT have any problem passing. Start using Altiod Mints while you work, or chewing gum, if they allow it. After they start this cycle you should be able to tell when it'll be your turn. My bet it will be after your day off or vacation. I know someone who went to Jamaica for vacation and had to test when he got back to work. It was a surprise Saliva Test they do right in the store. He got back on Sunday and took the test on Monday around 9 am. 24 hours later he was still working. He never asked if he passed, because as long as he was still working he didn't want to question the Store Director about the results thinking that would bring suspision on him. About a week later the Store Director asked if he had a good time on vacation, he replied yes. That was it. He would of never been allowed to remain working if he failed. He would have to retest and wait for the results on suspension.
