I was not quite sure how to search to see if this had already been asked, so i will just ask it. If you dont feel comfortable, or confident in your ability to pass a saliva test, is there anyway to stall it? even for a day without being denied employment?

What if when i go in and they ask if ive eaten any mints i say "oh ****, i did..." and play it off as if you just spaced and normally eat mints anyway? What will they say? can they revert to a different type of test? If they have not already explicitly said that they would do this, is it within their jurisdiction to require a urine or hair sample on the spot? Or will they just require a saliva sample the next time you show up for work? Thanks for all input

when was the last time you smoked? If it has been atleast a day you should be fine just be sure to brush your teeth and use the mouth wash. And eat up altoids b4 your test.

Actually, its quite imperative that i do actually stall the test, after the initial interview i was told i would be getting a call within the week if i got the job. After not receiving any call i gave up and moved on to working towards getting the next job on my list. This also included breaking my two week sabatical from smoking as the next conceivable test was very far off in the future.

I got a call this morning at 9 saying that i had been offered the job and the last time i smoked was last night at 1 at which time i smoked approximately 1/3 of a gram. I have until 3 this afternoon, which means i will have stayed clean for 14 hours, to go in an finish the required paperwork for the job and to receive the saliva test. Nowhere in the application does it mention any other type of drug testing but i would rather not risk that.

This offer was a huge surprise, one i would have never expected, so after i did not receive a call for a week and a half following the interview, i was quick to give up on the prospect.

I have been brushing my teeth furiously all morning, mixing it up with some in between rinsings of mouthwash, i accidentaly used an alcohol containing wash at one point? Could this have any negative results? I am just going through collections of those care package toilletrie bags that you get for riding on airplanes and downing all the mouthwash i can find, none of which are brand name? Will this have any effect at all? or do i need to go for something more commercial?

I also just went out and bought two tins of altoids curiously strong peppermints which i have been munching through as well. My mouth stings something awful, but if it means i might actually pass this test i am down.

Is there anymore advice anyone here can give me regarding what i might do to help my chances at this point? Or if there is anyone with any experience in admitting to having eaten mints prior to the test, their opinion would be much appreciated. Also, if i do go in, i will probably be in close contact with this guy throughout the paperwork and such, wont he be able to pick up on the overpowering minty smell coming from my mouth? Why not take it and get it over with. Don't say anything about the mints, and be sure to brush and gargle well before you leave the house the day of the test.
This is not a hard test to pass, so don't smoke for a couple days and get it over with.

Alright then, here goes nothing, smoked for the last time 14 hours ago, not even a full bowl, a couple hits, prior to that did not smoke anything for weeks. Have been gargling/brushing/rinsing with dissolved aspirin, eating lots of dairy products and drinking carbonated soda all morning. A desperate attempt...
Ive also eaten a tin of mints and beginning the next one, finishing it just before going in. Wish me luck.

Thanks for the confidence, it actually went fairly smooth. I downed the last of the mints in the parking lot and went in sure my mouth reeked of pepperment. But thankfully the supervisor decided he would hand me over to one of his trainees to give him some experience and he never asked if i had eaten anything in the past hour or anything.

I was able to give the sample no more than 2 minutes after eating probably 10-15 mints which im sure probably helped some, i kept the swab close to my teeth the entire time and away from the fat pockets of saliva collecting by my gums...ugh.

Some specifics, im about 6' 2, i am a runner so ive got just about no body fat whatsoever and my metabolism is through the roof, ( i eat all day and still only weigh around 150). The testing equipment is being processed by LabOne in Kansas and the swab was manufactured by OraSure, not entirely sure if this can help in figuring out my chances but it cant hurt.

Im fairly hopefull and ill be sure to post results when they come, thanks for all the help.

I told you to get it over with, good job.
That was good, even though the fat poctets are not going to cause you to fail.
This Don't matter.
This is the same lab Kroger uses, and I give that same test.

The results will be there on Monday or Tuesday. They ship the swap next day air, via DHL (If it's For Kroger). So they will get the test Friday. They won't email the results until 3 days have passed so that's Tuesday. Expect a call on Wednesday, so they can arrange for you to go to orreintation ( That is if it's for a Ralph's or Kroger Store)
