This is my first posting and I do hope that I am doing this in the appropriate way. I want to thank GrillMeats and others who post their knowledge on here. I am a regular (nightly-after work ONLY smoker) and had an interview Friday. I was prepared with some recently thawed urine only to find out that the company is doing a mouth swab, which I am assuming is the "saliva test" I have been reading about. When she told me I would meet with the "big boss" Monday at 9 AM and would have the test after that last interview I came right home and read every single posting available on this site, then I searched the web to read about the efficacy of the tests from the manufacturer. I am believeing that since I haven't smoked since 11PM on Thursday that I will be fine for the test tomorrow morning. I will still brush like crazy and gargle with alcohol-free mouth wash and will have a stash of Altoids in tow as well. I will let you know how things go. Again, I can't thank you all enough for the information you have provided. I am 2 hours from my "72 hour window" right now and by 9AM I will be well past that....but the nerves are still tense this night. Thanks again and I will definately post the results as it has been more helpful to hear of those who pass than to just read how to pass.

you should be ok. I get my results back wednesday. So im pretty nervous to but just brush gargle and eat your mints and you will be fine. If they ask if you have had any mints say no.

Just don't smoke before the test. The morning of the test brush and gargle. Purchase some Altoid mints and take up to the time you go to the interview. If they ask you if you had any mints, say No! You have enough time to pass the test, so just relax and get it over with.

Thanks. Just one more question. I was thinking when you said not to smoke you meant not to smoke any weed. But, I said I only smoke in the evenings after work, so is there a chance you mean that I shouldn't even smoke a cigarette? (please forgive my naivety)

I decided not to have ANYTHING to smoke...including the cigarette only because I was in a hurry and didn't want to smell like smoke during the meeting. I got hired (at a higher than normal pay rate just caused I asked for more...hehehe, they think I'm worth it...I'd hate to fail that test after such a killer interview) pending the oral fluid swab and it's going to Lab One just as I have read. She did say it would go out today and she would have the results tomorrow. I don't want to celebrate too soon and I am a little concerned...jitters I guess. Trying to relax and wait to see what happens.

If I get the job I will have to smoke out back....near a dumster...yuck. But right now I am still worried to death as to whether or not I passed the saliva test. I bought Tom's of Maine since I read it about it hear and I gargled, ate half a tin of Altoids (peppermint flavor) on the ten minute drive, then the interview with the store manager lasted about 20 minutes and I had time to pop in only one more mint ten minutes prior to the test. I know that everyones job search is important to them and this is no less important to me. The last eight months have been the most trying in my life...it would have been in anyones life. I'll spare you the details and just say...my life was great, I put myself through college and bought a house and raised my son all at the same time. Then one day...boom...I got sick for 5 weeks (after having not been sick with even a cold in so many years) then I lost my very good professional job, my son ended up in the hospital for four months and is now still recovering...but in that process he had to move to another state near his father. I thought I would have to sell my house until I was offered this position. It isn't an exaggeration to say that if I don't pass this test, I will have to sell my home. I have lived here for ten years and I don't want to move. This is where I raised my son, it's the first place I can call "home" since I was 18...and I am well passed that now. Basically, I feel like I've lost everything (but my home) and if I didn't pass this test I will have to sell it too. I wish I could have reassurance, the hours are like weeks while I wait. I thank you all for not only your help, but for the time and caring you put in to replying. Be Blessed and I'll write again after I get the call.

you will be ok. You had the mints and mouthwash. I get my results tommrow im pretty nervous to. But keep us posted.
