I just went for an interview at Protection One and seems that I got the job, but now they want to do a drug test, most likely saliva but not 100% sure. I am a regular smoker (almost everyday, about a bowl) and the last time I smoked was last night 1am. What should I do so that I can pass? When is the best time to take the test? How long should I wait. I will find out from them what type of test it is and try and schedule for monday so I have more time. Please someone inform me. I would greatly appreciate it. Thanks

They require different ways of preparing. I would sub if it is Urine and if it's Saliva stay clean for 48 hours and clean your mouth good the morning of the test.

If it's a saliva test what do you recommend for cleansing, type of mouthwash, toothpaste, etc. that would be the best results for passing. I have read the posts but please just so i am sure can you give me the exact procedure. Thanks Grill.

Brush and gargle in the morning. Use Listerine. Purchase some Altoids, they are mints. Take them right before you interview. If they ask you if you had any mints say no.
It's best to be clean for at least 48 hours, 72 hours is a shoe-in.

Thank you so much for all the help. This site was very helpful. Is Listerine alcohol-free and ok to use, because I read on this site that it should be an alcohol-free mouthwash.

Hey Grill, I just took the saliva test today at 3pm. I brushed and gargled at around 12 and took altoids until my appointment at 2. The only thing is that I didn't take the test til about 3. Last time I smoked was on monday night of last week, 7/11. I'm a little stressed about it since it took so long for the test. Do you think I will still be ok? I was clean for six days. Please let me know since I am pretty worried about this. I appreciate your help. Thanks

Just to be clear:

Clean for 6 days
brushed and gargled til 12 noon
Took altoids til 1:50
took the test at 3:00

I had a friend who smoked a lot and i've was told with saliva tests that after 3 days you are clean. He quit for 3 days and passed so if you did six you should be fine. good luck
