Okay, I had an interview for a new job that likely won't start until January.

I am not a regular smoker anymore. However, I will be out of town and near my people, so I'm sure I will smoke. It also helps a great deal with my fibromyalgia and I'd like to smoke more often.

I have QuickFix for a urine test, but a friend of mine said the company does oral swabs (saliva testing) instead of urine testing and do randoms with the swabs. Believe me, I'd be proud to work for a company that only did impairment testing (essentially what a saliva test is) and doesn't discriminate against MJ users by detecting metabolites for months that if we were using harder drugs would be gone in a week. But what I want to know is, would it be safe for me to smoke the night before I had to go to work if they are doing random saliva tests?

I'm certain the pre-employment test will be a snap. But I'd hate to toke, go to work the next day, and get canned.

When I smoke, especially since I am not a regular user anymore, I use a one-hitter and about two or three hits is more than enough for me. Even when I smoked daily, I used a hitter and went through less than an eighth a week. Will my good 'ole good oral hygiene routine (I brush, floss, and use a flouride treatment in the morning and before bed, and I take a toothbrush to work to brush after lunch) be sufficient to foil a random if I was to smoke the night before?

This is what I would do if I had to take a Saliva test.
1) Stay away from MJ for at least 24 to 48 hours. 72 hours is the best.
2) The day of the test you should clean your mouth big time, brush, gargle, and floss.
3) You should take Altoid Mints up to test time. They might ask you about mint intake, say "NO".
4) Wait to get the notice from your new employer on start time.
5) If they fail to call within 7 days, call them.

I appreciate your quick response, and I have read the poll discussion where you give this advice.

My question is more about randoms, where I may not have time to prepare. Right now I smoke so sporadically that it's unlikely I have any concerns regarding a pre-employment test. I feel grateful it's just a saliva test!

But if I have to confine all smoking to the first day of a weekend, I'll do that but this winter is going to suck... that's usually when I use it for my fibro, and my usual routine was to smoke one or two hits when I got home, and another two directly before brushing teeth for bed since it helps me sleep.

I would not worry about it. As long as you clean your mouth and use the mint, you should be OK. Confine the smoking to after work and not during working hours.

Allegedly, it only picks up THC-use in the last 2-4 hours, and amphetamines for 24hrs. I would avoid mouthwash with alcohol bcs they are likely to test for alcohol as well. Anybody got any suggestions for sudden test? Here's a link to some serious sh*t that may be spreading...
