Howdy!!

Thought I'd just post a thread to give Mr. Crowley some company here. If you know you've got a hair sample due, and the prospective collector doesn't know what you look like, shave your head, or clip it really short. It will grow back. Wigs are coming back in style in a big way.

It would be worth it to me, but wouldn't they just take samples from other parts of your anatomy?

Can they use hair from any other part of you?

(Trying to give you some company now)

They can use any type of body hair from anywhere on the body.
Thank God I haven't come across this yet!

About 6 years ago, I turned down a job with a well known company because they asked for a hair test. It was too bad. At that time, I had used once during that past year and was scared that I would get found out. Well, EDS... Sorry to say that you lost out that day.

Default more hair testing info

Just a little more info I picked up during my recent hair testing research... there is a perfectly acceptable medical reason why a person might not have any hair on his body to test. There's a disorder called alopecia areata, which dermatologists tend to believe is caused by stress, that causes hair to fall out in large clumps for no apparent reason. This isn't limited to the head--it can happen anywhere on the body. It can also happen all over your body at once, at which point it is referred to as alopecia universalis. The hair usually grows back in a few months. You could make the argument that you've been so nervous over the job that your hair fell out from this disorder. People who get this tend to get it repeatedly, once every couple years, so you could always say you didn't go to the doctor because going to the doctor never helps anyway (about all they can do for treatment is give you subdermal injections of corticosteriods, which seldom do much except make your scalp dry and itchy).
There's a foundation for alopecia areata sufferers, they have some of their info on the web. You can track it down through any of the search engines.
Bottom line, if they can't get a hair sample off you for what could be legit reasons, they're going to have to test you some other way--which is going to be urine 99% of the time, which we can ALL beat.
Never give up, never surrender!

Cool

The disorder you are talking about can suddenly occur with extreme stress but these people don't so much as have an eye lash! I think it would be extremely hard to claim this.
I'd like to know what companys are hair testing because so far I have not come across it. I'm glad it is still so rare that I could afford to turn the company down and find a different job if they asked for a hair test.

Actually, Maggie, not true. You can lose significant areas of hair if you suffer from alopecia areata without actually losing it all. Check out http://www.alopeciaareata.com/, the homepage of the alopecia areata foundation, for the facts.
Bottom line is if there's not enough hair to test, they have to test you some other way. The ADA won't allow discrimination against a potential employee because he doesn't have any hair as the result of an illness.
For a list of companies that test, check out http://www.testclear.com/dtcompanies...yresults4.cfm. It takes a while to load, but it's worth it. They have the one that tested my friend--US Steel in Gary.

Also try http://www.testclear.com/dtcompanies...yresults4.cfm. They have some additional companies not listed on the first site I mentioned, also broken down by type of test.

Cool

Thanks for the info Ziggy. Did your friend pass his hair test? Urine tests are bad enough. Seriously I would refuse a hair test even if it cost me my job. It's just to much of a violation and at some point you have to draw the line.
Just out of curiosity, where are hair tests done? Does a person actually pluck a hair out of your head? Good grief!
