I know this is kind of an annoying constant question abourt hair tests and i have read most of the posts on this great site, but I have another situation hoping for some answers. I never smoked up until early september 05 and since then have smoked about 10 times mostly a few hits off of a bowl. I stopped from about late october until december when i took a few hits and stopped again until march when i smoked maybe 1 or 2 times when i took maybe 3 bong hits and a few hits off a bowl last over spring break around march 15th. Since then i have not smoked at all but have been around friends smoking twice in the last 3 weeks while pulling my shirt over my nose/mouth. I'm am leaving school and heading into the world of work where the job i want requires a hair test. The sooner i can get into this job the better, but there is not definative deadline other than maybe mid to late may when i can go in for an interview and physical/drug test. For the last few weeks I have been stressed big time about what i should do. I have cut my hair down to about 3/8 of an inch about a week ago (about 35 days since last smoking) so i assume the hair i have now on my head is safe, but i still am concerned about being around while other people smoked. I have also been using aloe rid for about the last week and a half. I am thinking about the macujo method and will probably try it a few times in may and every once in a while after that. If i go to an interview in late may, which would be the best bet to still get the job, i probably wont have the hair test until about the first week of july. If i stay clean until then, which should be about 75 days out and let my hair grow out until then (my hair should be about an inch long), should i be safe with them taking my head hair, assuming it is long enough so they will take it and triming all my body to at least 1/4 of an inch so that i will pass?

Also i plan on paying for a couple home tests, one for my head hair and 1 for body hair (probably pits). I realize this is probably the best way to get answers. How accurate are these tests compared to tests given for pre employment, i havent been able to find much info on the reliability of these home versions. And for what it's worth, this incident has convinced me to stop smoking forever.

Sounds like you have done your homework and a home test is always the way to go if possible. Pass a home test and you will be fine.

Just thought i would update my situation. My hair test is set for the 1st week of July and I have still been clean since March 11. I sent in a pdt90 around the 2nd week of may and passed, but my hair was only about a 1/2 in. long and my sample was tiny so I still had some doubts. My hair is getting close to an inch now so I ordered another test that I'm going to send in next week. I went through a bottle of aloe rid in april and have been using it again for the last couple weeks, but haven't done anything else besides that. With the length of my hair now and the time passed I think I should be find but I am still worried about people smoking around me. Friends have smoked around me several times, especially in the last couple weeks and this has got me sweating the test again. I usually go to the other side of the room or in another room while they smoke but I can still smell weed and am worried being exposed to this even as little as i may be taking in which has happened maybe 10 times and will give me a positive test. I've read quite a few times that passive inhalation won't hurt you with the hair test but I know I must have taken some in, should I be worried at all or am i still just being paranoid.

Also does the pdt90 have about the same sensitivity as the tests administered for pre employment by most companies, or are they a "step down" in terms of accuracy of testing since they are primarily for parents testing their kids?

Save your money on another home hair test. Second hand smoke won't influence the test. You are still being paranoid. You should pass without any problem if you don't smoke before the test and if your smoking history is correct. You will have way over the 90 day minimum. Let your hair grow, any new growth should be clean.

Thanks for the quick reply onetoke. I figurred I was still being paranoid and a little reassurance is good to hear. I'll just be glad when this whole ordeal is overwith and I can totally relax with my new dream job underway. I guess it's time to just relax. Thanks again
