Default Hair Length Question

I understand that as the sprouted hair ages, it thins. If you look at a hair under a scope, it it thicker at the bottom (new growth) than at the ends (old growth). As I look at diagrams of the different parts of hair, the thicker bottom of the includes a cortex, where the metabolites are stored. But the cortex only extends a short way up the hair. Is THIS the reason that the labs say they can only test as far back as 90 days? Once you get past the length of the cortex, then the cortex disappears into a solid cuticle and the matabolites are not carried into the cutiicle? If so, then does length of the hair really matter much past the 1.5 inches? Also, SEC3 maybe you can answer this, I have heard that when the labs get long strands they typically take the bottom 1.5 inches and throw the rest away. Is this true?

Moderate user, daily use but with a one hitter, total 4/5 tokes daily five or six years. Stopped 65 days ago, plan to stay stopped for a good while after I start my new job....if I pass my hair test that is. Will Mucujo (x2 , day before and day off) and deep clairify. My hair is long. Shoulder length. Light brown, very fine, I have an exceedingly high metabolism, 5ft 10in, maybe 175 lbs. I get lots of excercise and sweat a lot. Anyway, I like my chances, and appreciate this forum. Will post my hist and results in the results thread.

So, my quesiton really goes to the length question. If you have very long hair, is cutting it short irrelelvant, given the disappearing cortex?

The "disappearing cortex" really has nothing to do with it. The gov't sets the limits on how far back to test. They can test the whole history of the length of the hair, but the reliability fades as the time line gets longer. That is why there is a standard set for testing.
