OK..OK..OK so they and you don't think a hat drawing is scientific, but a computer picking random numbers is. They are the same in my world. Of course you can't access the internet with a hat, but you can't keep your head dry with a computer. I am guessing soon they will be the same.

I'm sure that isn't because you wore it out, must be a technical problem.

Well, I did sort though all those links on the website that 1toke brought to my attention and didnt find anything that answered my question - thats why I was wondering if I had missed something totally obvious. Some of the articles were also out-of-date as evidenced by this quote:

Many companies, such as Kraft Foods Inc., Anheuser-Busch and Georgia-Pacific Corp. have already adopted alternative testing, but others have waited due to a lack of guidelines and standards. Casinos and police departments were some of the first to use hair tests to pre-screen potential employees.

I did found a link to federal drug testing guidelines that was amended to include specimens other than urine; this was published in 2004 so is still relatively new.

http://a257.g.akamaitech.net/7/257/2...df/04-7984.pdf

It states that the test should go back approximately 90 days but offers no explaination as to why this is the case.

The reason is reliability. I have read it and Buzzby states it often. I don't know where I read it, so unless you can find it by searching, all you have is my word. Sorry.

I know I read this somewhere too - hopefully Buzzby can comment a little more on this. The only other reason I can think of that they wouldnt test more than a 3 month history is because the governent came up with a
timeframe they deemed appropriate when establishing their guidelines. It certainly doesnt seem ethical to prevent someone from getting a job or firing them for something they did 6 months ago - even a 3 month period is a stretch.

BTW, I just called the Psychemedics helpline and asked the the rep. if they ever test up to 6 months of history - she told me it was even possible to go back any further than 90 days! If everyone in the hair testing world just follows set guidelines, then detection of drugs past this timeframe becomes a non-issue.

The reliability of the test over 90 days was the deciding factor. The did a study and it is on the web someplace. I think I found it when doing searches for "drug hair testing" ( also how I found this site)

Default Over 90 days is an issue

The problem is that sun takes it's toll on toxins in the hair, I don't have the link but we've seen actual test data that makes this clear.

So going beyond 90 can actually be beneficial for a user, because it may "dillute" the more current, dirty hair with hair that has been fried by UV light, etc.
