Default Is it possible to test for drug use past the 90 day cut-off?

Does anyone know if an employer can request that one be drug tested for, say, a 6 month time frame instead of the typical 3 month cutoff? Is this something that is precluded by government standards or something that is simply not feasible due to inaccuracy of results after the 90 day period (hair weathering etc.)?
Im just curious as I will likely have my test next week after 3.5 months clean and numerous treatments. No probs passing a 3 month history test but if they look at a longer history.....

It is possible to test way past 90 days, but the test aren't reliable. That is why the government has set standards for testing.

Hi 1toke, do you know exactly what the government standards are? Do they stipulate somewhere that if more than a 90 day history is examined the results are inaccurate and must therefore be disregarded?

[QUOTED from the link provided above]They may randomly drug test you, simply by drawing your name from a hat.

It is not acceptable for a federally regulated employer to simply draw names out of a hat. The selection must be made either by using an approved numbering system done in an approved method or the selection must be made using an approved computer program specifically for the purpose of random selection.

Those employers employing a random drug testing program in a correct manner will use a computer program to make the selections. Non-regulated employers CAN draw names out of a hat, but it is not considered a scentifically acceptable method.

...just had to put in my 2 cents worth...

Number out of a hat or computer generated. Same thing except a hat is cheaper and more reliable.

49CFR Part 382.305(i)(1) The selection of drivers for random alcohol and controlled substances testing shall be made by a scientifically valid method, such as a random number table or a computer-based random number generator that is matched with drivers' Social Security numbers, payroll identification numbers, or other comparable identifying numbers.

Not the same thing in my world.

Maybe I'm going blind here but..... I didn't see anything on this web page, or its links, that refer to federal guidelines on how far a hair test can reliably go back - there are many guidelines for the urine test, however.
Numerous sources I have read state that reputable testing facilites will only go back approximately 90 days (or 1.5" of hair growth) but I haven't been able to find an explaination for this.

There are links at both the bottom and on the right side of the page. 1toke did say this link would get you started. The entire point is for you to do your own research. 1toke only gave you a starting point.

Try this: http://www.homehealthtesting.com/hair-drug-tests.htm
Although this article was written and printed by Psychemedics, the hair testing laboratory. Other than that, if you find an article regarding the length of history in hair tests, feel free to bring it to our attention.

That is correct, sec3. I typed "drug testing guidelines" in a search engine and gave ONE link.
