I just got a great new job and I have already taken the hair test. I have more than 90 days clean, I would guess 110 days clean, possibly as high as 142 days clean. I am absolutely sure it has been longer than 90 days. If I dont pass this test I will be devastated. I have never been a chronic user, smoking maybe twice a week sometimes once every few weeks. I have only smoked a handful of times the entire year of 06! My hair is upto 2-1/4 inches in length. Am I relatively safe, what are my chances of passing? If I fail will they allow a retest?? I quit a long time ago in anticipation of landing great job but was not expecting a hair test. I won't be smoking again, it's just not worth losing a job over. I am freaking out. ![]()

My thoughts.... If the last time you smoked was more than 90, 110 or 142 days ago, you should be ok for a hair test. There are no "Do overs" in drug testing. (well maybe in the case of a dilute neg. in the other type of test). How many times should an employer give a person a hair test? Once, twice, until they pass? Who should pay for all these extra tests? No, the employer will give you one shot. Pass or fail.

If the last time was 110 days ago, what are my odds? I have to wait a week for the results and the stress keeps building. Also doesnt the test go by the length of the hair sample? Isnt a sample 2-1/4" in length cutting it close?? Thank you for the responses.

When you did your research before posting a question, did you by chance come across anything mentioning that only the first 1-1/2" of the root end of the hair is actually tested (3 months growth)? If not, then maybe you shoudl read a bit more.

No, I didn't see that anywhere and I've read most of the threads here in addition to what I found on google. One site said the rate of growth is 1/64 of an inch every day, and that history can go back 5 years plus if your hair is long enough, but just about every place only tests upto 90 days. Hopefully you see why I was/am stressed. 1tokeover, thanks. That makes me feel more confident but it will be on my mind until I get an all clear.

PS. The company that did the testing said the sample could go back 3, 6, or 12 months depending on what the employer wanted. THIS IS WHY I AM WORRIED. Is this just bs????

Hair grows approx. 1/2" a month. The history can go back longer than 5 years, but standards are set for hair test at approx. 90 days 1 1/2" of hair. | |
