| I have been smokin for over 2 years. Around a quarter of an ounce or so a week, and i think the last day i smoked no weed what so ever was some time in may 2001. Newayz i'm gonna be blood tested in the near future, like a week or so, cos my mum is sus. How long should i go straight for before the test (i foundout today and the test is next week), to pass, or am i screwed already (in which case i should go take a couple bongs hits to calm myself). | |

Are you sure it's a blood test? If it is a blood test, if you stop smoking now, you should be fine for the test, because marijuana is not detectable in your blood for too long. If its a urine test though, you're probably screwed. Good luck!

Tokey are you sure? It was my understanding that urine tests can only detect MJ in your system for a week or so, in fact my friend passed a urine test while he was stoned (True Story!), and blood tests can detect it for up to a month before. If i am wrong please tell me because my dad is threatening to test me too and I can't smoke because of this. We need someone who knows everything about blood tests to tell us what's going on.

There is no THC detectable in your blood after ~ 18 hrs. However, there are some detectable metabolites in your blood for another 1-2 days. After that you are clean for a blood test. However, a urine test CAN detect up to 30 days after your smoke, but this varies a lot according to weight/metabolism/level of activity.... I have passed a urine test 10 days after HEAVY and CONSTANT smoking. For the reason that urine detects for longer than blood, they will NOT allow you to substitute a blood for a urine test during on-the-job testing (at least my last workplace, we had a Q&A session before the drug policy was implemented. I asked if I could voluntarily pay for a blood test instead of a urine test, my argument being it is a better judge of whether I am currently intoxicated. I was told blood tests are NOT used because of this EXACT reason (They only show drug use during the last few days, not weeks). When I tried to protest "But, my job has no right to regulate how I am OFF work" I was told !"Marijuana is illegal and we have a zero-tolerance policy").... F**K that.. I quit that crap job, and moved away. Screw the close-minded valley I grew up in. I HATE HATE HATE this new drug testing craze that has swept America SOOOO much!!!!! Why does it matter what I do at home to relax when I am doing a mindless minimum wage job anyway?? Chris D

Well thanks for the info Chris. Now I might just stand a chance at passing one of my dad's drug tests. So do you think if i smoked i could pass a blood drug test 1 week later?

Yeah, I think you would pass. Don't smoke any weed at all during that week though, don't want to press your luck. Why did he decide to blood test anyway? THe only thing that stays in blood a long time is nicotine if you're a smoker, that's why they blood test for life insurance- and I think that this fact proves that marijuana is better than tobacco: The life insurance campany does not urine test (which would show marijuana), but they DO blood test to see if you use tobacco. Since they are completely profit/actuarial tables/lifespan based, in my mind this PROVES that weed must be way less damaging to your health. (BTW: THe reason I know this is I just set up a policy for myself, and I am of course, a HEAVY potsmoker- they blood tested me 9 days after my last smoke and I passed) Chris D

This is probably the best news I've gotten in months. I haven't been able to touch weed in 4 months and IT'S BEEN KILLING ME!!! But just to make sure I don't fail the drug test (if he catches me again, I go to military school), do you know of any other types of blood tests that can trace it farther back? Because I asked the advice nurse at my hospital and she said it can detect THC in your system for up to a month, was she just trying to scare me or are there different types of blood tests? ![]()
