I realize my situation probably isn't as dire as some others, but I'm a rather paranoid person by nature and would appreciate any info that can be provided.

My employer of nearly 4 years has suddenly decided to implement random drug testing, and mine is scheduled for this Monday. My wife was going through a pretty severe prescription narcotic withdrawal and bought a small amount to help get her through it. We shared a couple bowls of fairly weak stuff about 2 weeks ago (I probably hit the pipe about 10 times total). This was the first and only time I've smoked in over a year. Should I be concerned? How much/often does one need to smoke before it can be detected in a hair test?

You should be fine. 2-3 times in 90 days and you should still be under the cut off limit.
Are you sure it's a hair test???

No, I'm not sure it's a hair test, and acutally, before reading numerous posts on the site, I assumed it'd just be a urine test (it appears that more and more companies are choosing hair over urine). I suppose I'd rather assume the worst and be overprepared.

I think you will be ok for either test. If the urine test concerns you, get a home test and test your first urine of the day. The strongest, most concentrated urine. If you pass that (and I think you will) you will be fine for any test your employer gives you.

I hope all goes will with your wife and kicking her dependence on narcotics.

I looked into it, and it seems that NYS has been funding companies to do hair tests as opposed to urine, just to ensure a drug free workplace.

I'm not sure your in NYS, but just figured I'd share the info.

With the difference in the amount of post between the Urine Testing Forum and this one, I would say that piss test are still the most common.
In NYS though you could be right. If they make it harder to pass a drug test they can keep the welfare rates high and then Social Services can still keep their jobs.
NY......the welfare state.
