Ok so I went and took my hair test yesterday. In retrospect I didn't do nearly enough to prepare for it and right now I am freaking out that I will not pass. I used the macujo method with the 1% salicylic acid 4 times about 3 days before the test and then used the 2% the night before and the day of. I have fairly long hair (about 6 inches) and didn't cut it. I know some people say that they only test 1.5 inches but she still took about 5. I have been a fairly heavy user over the last year (1 or 2 times a day) but have cut down the last 5 months (3 or 4 times a week). I am really worried that they are going to detect something. My question is - what do I say if they do? I plan on denying any use and asking for a re-test. How does this usually work? I really need this job and should have done WAY more to prepare.
I really feel like I should have cut my hair. God damn it sometimes I am so stupuid. I saw the card and they were sending the sample to the psychemedics test lab. I think. anyway how long is it usually before they tell you your results?

Say thank you and sorry for wasting their time! No, I don't think you are going to argue a false positive hair test successfully.

Why are you worried about the hair being 5 inches. As has been said over and over on this site, they will cut it down to 1 & 1/2 inches but at the lab not when and where it was collected. The collector marks the root end and the lab cuts it. Then they will weave a wig with the rest and send it back with your results.

Well that makes me feel a little better. Although I don't remember the collector marking the root ends, maybe it did happen.

I was hoping to deny and maybe somehow get a re-test and go in with much cleaner hair.

The collector placed the hair in the foil in a certain way. That marks the root end. The foil has a tapered side and a square side. The tapered side is the root end, then the foil is squeezed over the hair trapping the hair in place, The foil with the hair is placed inside the cardboard envelope and then it is sealed, initialed and placed inside a plastic shipping bag.

well ya that all sounds about right from what I remember. I just hope the lady wasn't stupid enough to put the hair in backwards. Thanks for all your advice guys. I am holding onto hope yet

Anybody that does any job can screw up. Shit happens, but it is pretty simple to put hair in a piece of foil, root end first. Even if the collector was blind they would have a 50-50 chance of getting it right.
