Hello Mary Jane Lovers! I have a question about ammonia and what would happen if you put it in your hair and left it in for a little while?? Would it change the color of my hair or fall out or something? i duno.. I have done extensive research over the past few weeks and i have read that acids close the cuticle and bases open it.
I have done the Mac treatments every other day even though i dont agree with the vinegar part since it is an acid and is used as home remedies to close the cuticle to protect, strengthen, and add shine. But hey it has worked for many people so why not.
Anyways this is what i have been doing:
Shampooing everyday with Paul Mitchell 3 preceded by a baking soda soak and blow dry to open the cuticle. (wash with PM3 before bed too)
Every other day i have been Mac-ing: Vinegar 15 min, Clean/Clear 15min with bag on head with hot towel over it, Washing with tide 10 min, baking soda wash 5 min, PM3 wash 10 min. (5 Macs so far)
Also, i use a hair gel everyday with propylene glyco as 1 of its main ingredients so i duno if that helps or not???.

I have a hair test in about a week and i have been clean for 21 days. I was a heavy daily smoker for over 6 years. I am 22yrs old, 5'8" 155lbs with dark thick hair. My hair dresser says i can't bleach and redye because all this treatment has destroyed my hair and i have the possibility of losing my hair or having it turn orange when i try to dye it back. I also have shaved my whole body hoping it will grow back without the metabolites and i get a hair cut every week (hair grows extremely fast- italian). Longest hair on my head is 1-1/4". I also have purchased folli-kleen for night of test and Zydot for the day of the test along with a MAC treatment before each.

So.... What do you think my chances are? Is there anything else i can do? And what do you think about ammonia as a strong base to open up the cuticle or is that too dangerous or damaging or something????

There is some research on this site. Ammonia can be very dangerous. I don't think anyone will actually recommend you use it. Baking soda is a basic also.

You might try a couple of perm treatments and wash them out with Toxin or Zydot Purifier.

With your usage and hair type, you need maximum treatments.
