Default How Confident

How confident should I be being clean for 80 days and having to take a hair test?

Personal Stats:

Height/Weight: 5'9"/165 lbs

Hair: Dark Brown/kept very short (fairly bald on top)

Previous Usage: Moderate - I've been a consistent smoker for about 15 years with very moderate use over the past 5, meaning 4-5 hits on average 4-5 days a week.

Days Clean: As stated above, about 80

Test to be conducted by: Quest Diagnostics

Proactive Treatments:

1) MacCujO Hair Method approximately a dozen times over the past couple of months (full body; My arms and legs are now somewhat dry and itchy).

2) 4 Head Hair cuts since going clean (down to about 1/4" on top each time)

3) 1 full body-hair trim (varrying trim depending on part of the body - down to 1/4" to 3/4"); The reason I didn't just shave it all off immediately was due to the fact that I didn't know that I would be able to delay the hair test this long and was paranoid about being obvious regarding trying to cover up.

4) 1 bleach and re-dye of arm-pit hair (wanted to do full-body, but was concerned about staining skin on arms, legs, and chest). I did lightly bleach arm hair as well, but not enough to be noticable.

5) Consistent daily usage of Nexus Aloe Rid shampoe over first 60 days (until I read that it really wasn't going to make an impact).

6) Consistent daily usage of T-Gel Shampoo over next 20 days for Propylene Glycol content (thanks for yet another tip).

7) 1 Zydot treatment waiting and ready for day of test.

So anyway, I would love to make it 90 days, but I don't think I can actually delay it that long. My HR department is not being aggressive about this, but I'm pretty sure 80 is going to be my max. My biggest concern is that they will most certainly take the sample from body hair since there's not much up top and I don't know how effective the MacCujO method has been on body hair.

Thanks for your input in advance.

Are you NOW 80 days clean, or will it be 80 days clean when you take the test?

I'm no hair test expert, but if you are at 80 days NOW, and HR isn't being aggressive about scheduliing the test, do all you can to delay it.

I am Now 70 days clean. I am confident that I can delay it 10 more days for a total of 80. I would be 80 days clean today, had it not been for one single hit 10 days into it (I was drunk and at the time convinced myself that the test probably wouldn't happen...don't ask me why).

You are probably fine. You've done a lot of treatments. Trim so they are forced to take under arm hair. Zydot shampoo for extra measure....

I appreciate the nod Jerry. You've done a lot for a lot of people.

My definative goal would be to get to 90 days prior to testing, but I doubt that will be attainable. I am just thankful that I've extended it this long. By all rights it should have gone down week 1.

In the meantime, I've established myself as a standout top-performing manager at the new company I work for. The thought being that if for any reason something goes wrong, and I dispute, they will be more willing to allow for secondary testing rather than just cutting their ties. It's still extremely hard to find top quality employees out there...but ya never know.

Great site, great support. You guy's are first class here. Sucks that so many people have their lives turned upside-down by this.

I'll let you know how things turn out.

So it looks like I'm going to make (and break) the 90 day mark here this week without submitting to the test. Again, the HR department has been completely lax about my compliance in taking the screening. The HR assistant gave me the information and where to go about 4 weeks ago, but hasn't followed up since.

This, of course, was supposed to be pre-employment drug screening (you know, the kind of pre-employment screening they drop on you after you start working there). I'm thinking that it was the assistant's responsibility to enforce the policy, but she realizes that she ultimately blew it by not getting the screening info and control collection bag, etc. until 2 months into my employment. I'm assuming it's ultimately her ass, and that she's been afraid to bring it any higher ranking management due to her inability to get me through the screen in a timely manner (this is all speculative, of course).

Anyway, I get an uneasy vibe every time I run into her at work...like she wants to say something about it, but ultimately is afraid to call me out on it.

Regardless, as this is a very good management position, with a great deal of potential for career growth, I feel that I should go ahead and get the screening done. I don't want it coming up as a serious issue later, or to even raise the suspicions of my peers and superiors (perhaps bringing other unannounced screenings my way later on down the line).

I've continued use of the T-Gel daily, and also applied a perm treatment (with a 25 minute burn time) to all head and body hair a week ago. I plan on another perm treatment tomorrow, followed by one more Mac (I've got just enough supplies to pull one more off) and then, as stated above, a Zydot for the final day of testing.

The question of the day is, if you were me, at this point, would you go ahead and get the damn screening done to avoid any potential problems noncompliance could bring? If so, would you (being just past the 90 day clean threshold) be 100% confident that you would pass the test?

I just always worry about the very rare, but very real, instances of people being clean for over 90 days and still being tested as dirty. I mean I could continue to wait until the issue is forced, but it could result in career suicide. I can tell you that I'm also damn tired of thinking about it all the time.

Thanks again,

-Mastese

Test is tomorrow, which will put me at 93 days. I ended up utilizing perm solution 3 times on head and all body hair, with max burn-in times of 25 minutes. The last time was last night in which I used the T-Gel in between solution and neutralizer. If it weren't for the fact that I'm pretty bald up top, my hair would really look $#@*!! up right now.

Tomorrow morning I will do one final Mac and then wrap it up with the Zydot. It's probably 50/50 whether they will go head or body. My head hair is sitting at 1" on average, although some areas are 1 1/2". Body hair trimmed to 1/4-1/2" on average.

Wish me luck!

Ok, so as I'm going into day 9 after taking the test, I'm going to have to assume that I passed. 3-5 days is what Quest advertises, so we've breached that by a few...and no phone call...and nothing wierd at work.

They ended up going for chest hair. The guy said he 'didn't want to make me look any more bald than I was'. I said 'Gee, thanks!'. Needless to say, I was not feeling good about that option.

I thought they would go for the armpit, which as you know, I had done the bleach/redye on. Unfortunately I never made an aggressive attempt at a final trim my chest hair, which some was of appropriate length for sampling. Thankfully, as with the rest of my body hair, the chest hair underwent all the other treatments (3x perm, 12x mac, t-gel, aloe rid, and zydot) and had the 93 days chill-time.

Unless something very surprising happens, I'd say I'm in the clear...just would be nice to hear it from H.R. The only problem is that any person who had nothing to worry about would naturally never have to ask for the results.

Regardless, I'd have to say that apart from being very, very lucky in delaying my testing to the extreme, this forum and the people in it saved my ass. Jerry, Sec (and crew), thank you much!!!

It's because of the research/results posted here that I was able to prepare, utilizing proven effective methods shared by others who had gone through the same. The information and support also helped me keep my head straight under the worst of circumstances.

So if I hear something to the contrary, I'll let you know.

Again thanks, and to anyone else reading this, do your homework and if it really matters, do as much and whatever you can no matter how much time you have.

Oh, and one more thing, when I started this whole process I was only 7 days clean when I walked in and found the original testing papers and directives on my desk. So no matter what, don't think I didn't have to sweat it out. You just never know how it's going to go, so always make the best of it and commit yourself to doing the right thing.
