Question How long does THC stay in your blood?

Sorry, not sure where to find the info, i'm a newbie, but i think posting a new question should be ok right? sometimes answers specifically geared to a person makes us feel better. good luck!

While you are probably nervous and understandably so you hijacked someone's thread, a thread that's about hair testing no less. There is also a sticky on detection times but I'll be nice and tell you that for most people the detection time for blood tests is about 72 hours.

Question How long does THC stay in your blood?

Hi. I'm a newbie here and have a question. I am an occasional smoker, maybe once every month or so and i went to the dr today and since i was having bad headaches, my dr thought he would pull up the report from the time I went to the emergency room back in Sept 2007 to see the info on the MRI i received and he told me the report said i had marijuana in my system. well, my dr ordered me to have a blood test as soon as i could "just to make sure this wasn't an issue or problem for me" and said he could take away my pain meds he prescribes for me if he finds this in my system.

How long maximum would it take for THC to get out of your blood whether i'm a light or heavy user b/c i'm scared and need my meds! thanks!

THC metabolities show up in blood for a maximum of three days. They can show up in your urine for quite a bit longer.

Are you in the military? Is the the doctor your parent and you're a minor? I'm wondering how your doctor can "order" you to do anything. Doctors don't have that kind of authority under normal circumstances. If your doctor is such a prick that he won't give you needed medication because you test positive for marijuana, it's time to look for a new doctor.

I have a feeling it is because she(?) is possibly being prescribed large amounts of control pain killers and for a condition that is hard to verify with testing (headaches) and in this case they can stop prescribing them for testing positive for THC. Not that I agree by any means but it might not also be the doctor's fault. If Janeli2 is going to a pain specialist or pain management clinic they are heavily regulated by state and federal agencies and depending on the state or the doctor's prescribing patterns or the doctor's history they might not have a choice. The doctor does have that kind of authority as they can refuse to prescribe control medication at any time. If Janeli2 was on chronic benzos and kept testing positive for pot the doctor would be expected to titrate her off of them slowly before stopping completely as sudden discontinuation of these type meds could cause seizures. Sudden discontinuation of opiates poses no life threatening consequences. The patient may feel like the are going to die from opiate withdrawal but they never will die.

If any doctor refuses to make you comfortable whether or not you smoke I do suggest you see another one.

Thanks for the info Buzzby and Fakeboobsrule. i am getting a pain med prescribed to me due to having rheumatoid arthritis and back pain and recently had a unexplained seizure and i really think the dr wants to rule out everything "just in case." Like i said, i'm just petrified b/c the medicine combo i take does help me, and i really think the seizure occured due to me taking another med that the dr said "lowers my threshold of a seizure to occur in people especially if it runs in the family," which my mom has. Plus, i said not a problem to test when he asked b/c i was caught off guard so i guess its my own fault. anyways, thanks for the info!

You might inform your doctor that many patients on a pain management regimen find that they need a lower level of pain killers when used in conjunction with marijuana. Marijuana tends to potentiate the effects of pain meds without the problems that come from using them in higher doses.

Thanks!

Also, sorry for creating a new thread about this. i looked through a few pages of the recent threads and didn't find my answer but after going back to the oldest ones i did.

I reguarly don't use marijuana, a family member passed away and when i get around "certain family members" i want to smoke and get back into it for a couple days every couple months or so but i really would like to stop for good forever b/c this stressing out is a headache.

On another thread i read THC really doesn't stay in your blood for very long or you would be high all the time right?? Still nervous about having a blood draw and I'm getting it tomorrow which makes 10 days...........

As I said before, the maximum detection window for blood is 72 hours. It's generally quite a bit less than that. If you're an occasion smoker, you shouldn't test positive on a urine test after 3 to 5 days.
