Hi, I am so thankful to all those who have posted and given me some hope!

I am 22 about 50 pounds overweight, moderately active, and I used to smoke daily for 5 years, then quit the last 1 1/2 years and this past July smoked about daily until February 28. Then I quit for a school program and was really doing well until April 27. I had maybe 10 sessions from April 27-May 11. I found out the test I have to pass for admission to my veterinary technology program is a hair follicle test, of all things! So I have at least 80 gaurenteed days before taking the test which will bring us to August 1st. I probably won't be tested until August 15-to the end of the month which would give me 15 extra days, so a total of 95 by the time of test.

I know I will probably be ok but my main question is: If I have to take it right around day 80 does anyone think I will pass? I am not willing to bleach or color my hair. I was thinking of spending the next 80 days exercising (which speeds up growth of hair), eating healthily, and taking vitamins meant for hair growth. I know I only smoked a few times in the recent 3 months but I have been working so hard on getting accepted to this program for so long.

Also my hair is dark brown, down to my hips so very long. Will they take more than a 1.5 inch sample? I have heard of labs taking samples from body hair. How often do they not take it from the head? If I shave my body hair off (easy since I'm a girl) and they are forced to take it from my head should i be ok?

You probably will be ok. They will cut near the scalp and send then entire length of hair to the lab. The lab will use only 1.5 inches of the root end and discard the rest.

You have at minimum, 80 days to take this test. If I were you, I would periodically do a Mac Method from time to time (about every 2 weeks or so). I think you probably will pass anyway, but for insurance do the Mac twice a month.

Thanks for getting back to me so quickly, Sec! I appreciate all your feedback and ideas.
I feel like the mac method is very harsh on your hair so I will probably modify some of it, such as using the vinegar and then washing really well with my regular shampoo.

I have read on this site that there are over the counter shampoos like Paul Mitchell 3 and Nexxus Aloe Rid. I am confused about those; what makes those better for cleaning out the THC? Also I know there are deep cleansing shampoos that you are meant just to use once in a while, would those also help?
Thanks so much for your help, this has been incredibly stressful; I thought I would be clean enough to pass a urine test but without dumping tons of chemicals on my hair I feel like its rather out of my control. Thanks to you all!

Hi, I've read on the net that if you have long hair for your follicle test you are pretty much screwed, but JerryG and Sec have assured me they are only going to use 1.5 inches.

I'm very confused! If they do just cut a chunk of my hip length hair off how do all the gurus know that they will only use the 1.5 inches on the root end? I'm sorry I've been posting so much, just very confused by all the conflicting information. Has anyone with very long hair have any personal experience with this? Again, thank you so much.
