Mama Beep

My son is 17 about to be 18 years old. He decided to experiment with marijuana for the first time 30-45 days ago...he smoked twice in 3 days with friends...he says not a total of 10 hits. The courts are ordering a hair test...not a hair folical, (not sure the difference) this Thursday...like 2 days from now. Should I get the attorney to hold it off???? Is he going to fail? This is concerning a custody battle and we are frightened. Please help!!!!

It's a hair strand test. The only kind.

He should pass. The cutoff level is supposed to be three sessions in 90 days.

I think I'd do a few Mac treatments, and then do Zydot shampoo the day of the test. You will sleep better.

Good luck, custody battles suck...

Edit--I don't know your kid, make sure he's being straight with you. There are more extensive treatments, you don't need them if the smoking history is correct.

Please forgive my ignorance Jerry G but when I was a hard time partier...many years ago...they didn't have hair testing. I have no idea what Mac Treatments are nor do i know what Zydot shampoo is or where to get it....the courts have said we have 12 days to do the test....this will make it 50 days since he did this. I am sure he is being honest with me. Thanks again

It's doubtful that your son smoked enough to be above the threshold for a hair test. The hair treatment options mentioned are more for your peace-of-mind than anything else. You can find all of the info about them in the stickies at the top of this forum's listing.

I thought that older teenagers could choose for themselves which parent they want to live with. If your son is almost 18, I would think that any custody issues would be relevant only until his birthday.

Your son shouldn't be above the cut off levels... that said...

What state are you in? I know, from first hand experience (being the child, not the parent!) that judges almost universally listen to children over the age of 13 when considering where they should be placed, unless there is "a significant danger to the child."

Some judges consider any marijuana use to be a considerable danger to the child (I was asked if drugs of any sort were available, last time I spoke with a "court official," although I was 13 at the time).

Actually, the custody case involves my 17 year old's baby.....my grandchild. He is extremely stressed about this, earlier than expected fatherhood, and had been upset for days....when a buddy offered to "help him calm down". I thank all of you for your input, and reassurance. I would hate for this one episode to cost us custody of this precious baby girl. The mother has proven to be unfit, and we are trying to do step in for this baby. Although it wasn't a smart thing for him to smoke during this process, he is just 17 and he is under a lot of pressure and stress, I have to remember what it was like to be 17 myself, and to add in the whole being a dad thing, I am sure he is handeling it better than most. He has finished a 15 week parenting class and has stepped up to the plate and is doing the best he can. I will stand beside him, and again, thanks so much for your concern and help.
