Cool Worst book you read?

What's the worst book you've ever read? For school, leisure, etc.

Mine is Jane Eyre. In the 10th grade I had to read that terrible terrible book over one of my vacations. First of all, it's way the fuck too long. Normally I don't mind long books, but when you have boring characters, diction that's too hard to understand at a comfortable level, and a plot that goes no where it gets a little shitty.

For those of you who don't know this book it's basically like watching a 4 and a half hour romantic-drama movie that takes place in the 1800s. Except instead of watching it, you're reading it. And instead of it being good its boring as hell.

I had to read stargirl, that sucked pretty bad. It was about this socially awkward girl (very socially awkward) who goes to a school, gets made fun of, gets made fun of some more, becomes the most popular girl in school, and then gets made fun of.

OMFG! I'm glad I'm not the only one tortured in such a way. I actually bought that book in like, fourth grade. I must have read it a million times by the end of seventh grade, at which point I outgrew it. First semester of my freshman year, guess what we're reading? I failed. With a twenty something percent, hahaha.

The worst book I ever tried to read was "The Executioner's Song." I read it for Criminal Justice my first year of college. Well, attempted, anyway. It's supposed to be really good, but I beg to differ. I almost failed that class, too.

Goddamn crap books anyway.

Again, one of the only people I've ever seen agree with me on this point. It was also in one HUGE hardback. And I was also very young, but it's ruined for me forever anyway.

An obscure sci-fi novel from the fifties/sixties called The Conquest of Men. It was just a load of garbage. ONLY BOOK EVER that I've not loved the hell out of.

I don't know about THE worst book I've ever read, but I picked up a book called The Dumbest Generation a while back. It's a non-fiction about how kids today are dumber than the generations before them and how they'll keep getting dumber. I picked it up actually wanting to agree with what the author was saying because I have seen a lot of dumbing down.

But as I read it, I realized that even though I started on his side, there were just too many things he said that made me think, "Noooo....that can be refuted easily." or "Noooo...that's not completely true."

It just seemed a little biased and included way too many statistics and references to various studies that were done by other people. I have yet to finish reading it.
