The Doors of Perception by Alduous Huxley (Brave New World guy) is an awesome book I just started. It is about his experience with mescaline and then he expands and talks about how we all live in our own universes because our perceptions of the world are different. He theorizes that survival skills dictate that we perceive the world through a funnel of sorts - we only process what is most important about our surroundings to make sure we don't get killed. Our minds tend to disregard that which seems useless or unimportant for survival.

He talks about how there is a lot going on around us that we completely fail to percieve but can tap into that "sense" (in terms of our supposed 5 senses) through meditation, taking certain drugs etc.

Very interesting especially for those of us who experiment with mind altering substances, as most of us here do. Also, the band The Doors is named after the title of this book if anybody cares.
