This book really is great, I am almost finished with it. Not many books really make me just think "damn" and what really makes it more better is that it was written in like the 50's or something.

I've gone over the room 101 scene so many times in my head.. I always want to think that I would have the willpower to resist but in reality I do think that I would take the cheap way out.

Brave New World seems, to me at least, as a more likely future than 1984. 1984 is a world where the truth is hidden; BNW is a world where the truth is drowned in a sea of irrelevance

Well since this thread was resurrected, I'll just add this slightly off topic Al Gore qoute, which he made referring to the patriot act.

"They have taken us much farther down the road toward an intrusive, 'big brother'-style government -- toward the dangers prophesied by George Orwell in his book 1984 -- than anyone ever thought would be possible in the United States of America,"

Orwell's theories in 1984 were a definite treat, but i'd much rather he had just written about the society he envisioned, the love story just seemed tacked-on and the characters were under-developed.

I probally would have liked the book more if i wasnt forced into reading it for English. I agree, Its always interesting reading about ppls theories about life etc. such as Orwell. Big Brother is watching us... there just not from this planet.

Dude the love story is essential to the story. The two breaking social boundaries, and making love. That in itself was the personal revolution.

I love this book, definately one of my all time favs. It's so creepy to see how much things like that are here. And yes while some totalitarian run countries are farther along on the road, I think it's just fitting to the book when people try to say that "that isn't happening here, why don't you just go wave your flag" (Not that anyone here did) Just goes to show how deep we are.

It scares me to realize that I am probably the only person to reply to this thread, who read 1984 before the year 1984. Damn, when did I up and turn old?
