I need some help. I recently purchased this book and began to read it but i dont understand what many of this words mean, does anyone know if i am reading a different version or if they could help me with some translations? Should i just keep pushing through and it will eventually make sense or is it necessary to know their terms?

I've never read the book (the movie's awesome though), but my bro did and he explained some of it to me. The author makes up his own slang since it's supposed to be set in the future, supposedly you'll pick it up eventually.
I do recall (although this is working from my memory, which is sketchy at best )
viddy (or perhaps viddie, I didn't read it): to see or look at
gulliver: neck or perhaps head

I read it and yes the slang can be confusing sometimes even though you can make sense of it like slang irl. The good news is that later on in the book they dont use the slang much anymore
And about the movie, they left out a total of 3 scenes from the book (non important but makes the story more interesting)and most importantly the movie doesnt have the final chapter from the book,so i say read the book first then watch the movie.

That's generally how it should be, book first then movie. Usually Hollywood destroys books when they turn them into movies. Anyone read and see Starship Troopers? The book is awesome, the movie is tripe!

Thumbs up

Yeah, the language can be a bit tricky but it's what makes Burgess such a fascinating writer . On that note, if you like A Clockwork Orange, try picking up some of his other books, Nothing Like the Sun was absolutely brilliant...its a fictional account of William Shakespeare's life (which originally sounded pretty dull to me) but it was one of the best books I've ever read. I'm in the midst of The Wanting Seed right now (another Burgess book), a bit slow so far but really cool, crazy plot...it's about what kind of chaos overpopulation would cause in the future...being gay ("It's Sapiens to be Homo!") is encouraged and cannabalism is also allowed. Very cool

Talking i love books that turn into movies

most books rule but the motion picture sucks (not for Fear and Loathing and clockwork)

I havent read the book but i will sometime later this year after a finish the batch i bought at amazon

oh yeah nothing like watching clockwork orange drinking a glass of moloko and after that doing some ultra violent stuff kicking people on the gulliver

I just used 3 slangs! yeah!

oh yeah. kicking people on the gulliver is bad

I read The Client by John Grisham, and then watched the movie. The book was great ... I thought clockwork orange was a pretty ****ed up movie! I have no comments on that really.

Bailey: I didn't know Starship Troopers was a book first, I can imagine how the book would be a helluva lot better! Some books are better left alone and not made screenplays out of.

The slang is a mix of russkie and english, which makes for hard reading. I believe there is a Burgess-slang mini dictionary somewhere on the net. Ooh yeah, if you're a malchick, when you viddy the movie, you should cover your glazzies when the chelloveks do the in-and-out with the young devotchka. I used 6
