I read 1984 for a class when I was in high school. Thought it was way too slow. I was more partial to Animal Farm. Also read Hitchhikers when I was in 6th grade. Loved it to death, still love it. Read a couple of the others. They're not as good when you get later into the series. I think the last I read was So Long And Thanks For All The Fish. Didn't much care for it at all. Read Clockwork Orange too. Thought it was good, much better than the movie (which I think sucks) but I had a problem with having to flip back to glossary every time a character talked. Anthony Burgess, the godfather of Jargon Fiction. William Gibson must have been a student of his or something.

yeah, i'll have to back you up on 'stranger in a strange land'. if that doesn't give you even the slightest bit of something to think about when you've finished reading, well, you'd better be pretty high as an excuse.

Thumbs up

Hitchhiker's Guide is the best. The audio versions rock too.
"Life? Don't talk to me about life."

"Ham On Rye" by Charles Bukowski was a good book.
Anything by him is usually a good read.

All three are definately in my top 10.

I think A Clockwork Orange the movie is a brilliant piece of art, though.

I read a library book many years ago called "In search of the wild pendulem". Can't remember the author.
Every chapter was about a different "wierdness". eg. The time distortion you get when smoking pot is because your thoughts are travelling faster than the speed of light. Another chapter was about water being a life force in its own right. Lots of strange stuff.
Anybody else read it?
