People could assume I am Buddhist because I am always reading books on it, visiting a temple, thinking about it, but like you, I can't attach myself to it because a few things I just don't agree with.

Although most of the Buddhist philosophy is awesome, it would be an awesome world if everyone was Buddhist

But right now I am reading all sorts of philosophy books, even those Christian propaganda books - you know the ones, they say 'Life - Creation or Evolution' and act like they aren't biased, but you are basically expecting them to say 'Darwin was a pedophile'

It's good to see different views though, even if they aren't good.

Default A Side Question

Does anyone know what the word "ching" means in Chinese? It appears in a lot of names of Chinese manuscripts such as this one, the "I Ching", etc...

Tao Te Ching means "the way of living" Lao Tzu supposttily wrote it for some person while he was leaving his providence in china who wanted "the best way to live his life"
The I Ching translated is called "The Book of Changes". Its a book of divination and from my experience practicing pretty much is rather accurate

To dedhead & StonedPhilosopher,
In Stephen Mitchell's translation he says the Tao Te Ching, pronounced Dow Deh Jing can be translated as The Book of the Immanence of the Way or The Book of the Way and How It Manifests itself in the World or, simply the Book of the Way. The reason you see Ching in many Chinese texts is because Ching can mean Classic as in a Classic book.

I hear that there are some taoists who actually believe Lao Tzu was not just one person but maybe a group of people. Some say the knowledge that is in the book contains so much wisdom, one person wouldn't be able to write it on his own. He supposedly lived from 570 to 510. Wow man that was a grip of centuries ago. I have only read parts in my philosophy class from the tao te ching, but now I have been provoked and will read.

Bongzilla, what Christian books are you reading? I've read quite a few, i might have read some that you have read.
