Sorry if this isn't the correct forum for this post. I figured people that read this forum would be most likely to have something to say about it, so...

For the last 6 months or so, I haven't had a hell of a lot to do other than work, so I've been spending most of my free time stoned. I do it because I enjoy it and because I can. Most of the things I like to do (or have to do) like practicing the bass or doing laundry, etc, I have no problem doing while I'm high. Other than the problem of getting off my a$$ to actually get started, heheh.

One of my favorite things to do has always been reading. This, however, I can't stand to do while high, and that really sucks. Part of the problem is that sitting down with a book just doesn't seem like a good idea at the time. It seems like a lot of effort and it just doesn't appeal to me. But why not?? I love to read!

The other part of the problem is that when I do try to read, I just can't do it. I'll read a few sentences, stop, think about something else, read that part over, think about something else for 10 minutes, try to read a little more, and then I'll just give up and lay down and ponder something else. The same thing happens whether I'm reading fiction or non-fiction, and whether it's for pleasure or for school or something.

But I do spend a lot of time online when I'm stoned, and I spend hours reading all sorts of stuff. (Especially about the things I'm too lazy to do, like play the bass, hehe) My mind doesn't wander so much, either, unless I let it. Usually, at least. But I can't figure out why reading online is okay, and reading a book isn't.

Perhaps it might be that I expect things online to be short, or at least not novel length, so I'm more open to the idea of reading something that will only take a minute instead of the rest of the night?? One difference that I can think of is that I always always play music when I'm stoned (and not stoned too) but when I try to read stoned, I almost never have music playing. No idea if it has anything to do with it, but I guess it's worth checking out... I don't know, but I'd really like to start reading again.

By the way, I've tried reading all sorts of different types of books. Ones with really beautiful language do hold my attention a little better overall, but I can't get through more than a few words at one time.

Has anyone ever felt like this and gotten around it, or anything??

I like to read when Im in my burnout from being baked, I can actually picture the scenes better in my brain, and usally in my burnout, i dont like to do anything but sit on my ass

It sounds almost as though the information you are reading is almost too much input, inviting your mind to wander off on flights of fancy...

For the school work, what I found was speed reading the novel backward (I'm not kidding) or from the middle to the end and then read the beginning forward, sometimes hooked me into a something enough to where I could swallow the "nasty pill" I was being forced to by the scholarly powers that were.

Of course if it is a popular or well known novel, just buzz the net for information about the book and speed read all you can about info on it. Then of course speed read the book and you're set.

...at least that's what I did

i can't do it. for me, it's impossible. i always read the same line like 20 times over without realizing it. either that, or i'll go through a paragraph or so and forget everything i just read.

Last week I tried to revise a piece I had written for a class and I noticed it was written wrong and I thought it was so funny I had to act it out. So there I was falling out of the chair and rolling over to the phone. I must have looked so stupid and I got these carpet burns on my leg. I'm not going to try that again.

I love reading while. At least fiction novels. Fiction novels and text books on interesting topics like advance partical physics or multivariable calculus. When I'm really toasted Its just a lot easier to picture things and think outside the box.
