| Did anyone read the 2001 book before they saw the movie, and then threw up at how crap the movie was compared to the book? TV1 were showing it a while ago, so I thought I'd better read the book to get a feel for it. After finishing the book in 3 hours, I turned the movie on. And then turned it off. If you see a new 'blockbuster' coming out that is based on a book, please, please read the book first so that you will see what the author has written, not what Mr. Director thinks you should see and oh my god I am so tired. The moral of this story is don't be lazy and get shown; read and imagine for yourself. | |

| Senior Member ![]() | I loved the movie, but never got a chance to read the book, though I've been meaning to. I wouldn't call 2001 a blockbuster by any stretch of the imagination. It actually made you think. Granted, I haven't compared it to the book which is of course gonna blow away the movie. Oh, and Kubrick's a genius, I love his use of space. You always know you're watching a kubrick flick when you see that.

| Jr. Member | I seen 2001,2010 and read 2061 and 3001. The only thing that i didnt like about the 2001 series is the ending in 3001, it was disapointing to say the least even though the book was good.

| i have seen the movie and i think it rules. I read 3001 too. Not my favorite book but its good. How old is Arthur Clark? i think he is like 100 or something the dude is pretty old, i think he lives in Sri Lanka but i'm not sure. this dude was way ahead of his time when he wrote it, cause now everything he wrote is true except a few things like those huge towers with the super elavators
