| Anyone else read the Dark Tower series from Stephen King? I've read 5 out of 7 and am patiently waiting for the next one to be released. I am currently reading The Ultimate Hitchiker's Guide by Douglas Adams. Crazy space adventure. Easy read and interesting. |

| This is one of my favorite fantasy series of all time, truly one of King's most epic tales. I eagerly await the impending arrival of books 6 & 7. |

| I'm pretty much up to date now, finished vol. 6. The other night, I found thedarktower dot net, a message board devoted to the series. I was astounded at how much thought people had put into every single aspect of the books. I was also amazed to find out just how many of his books are related to the series. I've started the revised Gunslinger, and was shocked at how much of the story I had forgotten, or how many details I overlooked the first time. That can happen, of course, when its been something like 15 years since I first started the series... I would have been soooooo pissed if this series never made it to completion. Not to throw too much of a spoiler out there, but the "wordslinger" himself makes an appearance in Song of Susannah. I wasn't all that happy about it when it was starting to happen, but he pulled it off a lot better than I thought he could. |

| When I first laid my hands on The Gunslinger, I fell in love with this series and just had to read them all. However, I think that the earlier books, like 1-3 were definatly the best and they have been getting progressivly worse. The last one I have read was Sushanna's Song and I think there is one more after that (I heard that the last two have been completed for a while now, he is just doing a timed release). Of course I will have to buy the last one just to find out how it ends and hopefully it will re-enchant me with the series and remind me why I loved the books to begin with. -Esdfsfd EDIT: Someone wrote "song of sushanna" in their post...I don't remeber what the name was but if that's it, then thats what I meant. P.S. I've also read all of Douglas Adam's Hitchhiker books and they are excellent as well. I got the entire collection in bound LEATHER from a Waldenbooks in the bargain bin for $6! It was a steal for some of the best books I've ever read |

| I've just begun to read this series. I'm on book III, the Wastelands, and I love what I've reading. The novel It has always been my favorite book by Stephen King, but I think the Dark Tower series just may eventually eclipse that. The only part about the series that offends me (and my fellow stoners, I'm sure) is the parallel to marijuana King uses in Roland's world, which he calls "devil-weed". He makes it out to be a hard drug like coke or heroin, but doesn't treat alcohol or tobacco in the same way, and as a matter of fact, shows many instances where Roland indulges in such drugs. It's a little insulting, but hey, it's just a story... I've loved every single other detail of the first two books and found them to be page-turners the entire way through. I'm about 130 or so pages into the Wastelands, and it looks like it'll be up to snuff, too. Was anyone else insulted by King's negative spin on pot, or am I just an uptight bastard?

I also believe that future historians will look at this epoch and recognize it as another instance of the 'madness of crowds.'" ~Dr. Lester Grinspoon |

| in the last 2 books, king disses on pot as well (saying he needs to straighten out his lifestyle and get to work writing)...oh yeah, ive read the last 2 books and i was kinda dissapionted. this series started off totally kick @ss but i thought they got worse and worse...i still say that the first 3-4 in the series are my all time favorite stephen king books. |

What you say about books V, VI, and VII isn't promising... I'm on book III still, and own book IV, so I'm gonna read those right away, and continue as soon as I find the last 3 in a store. Hopefully, I won't be as disappointed. I'd rather the entire series impress me than just the first 4 books. ![]() | |
