Thumbs up The Doors of Perception

Aldous Huxley; The Doors Of Perception
also: Heaven And Hell, Brave NEw World, Island

Aldous Huxley has to be one of the most intelligent authors I know of. This book, The Doors of Perception, is a psychology book, and is the book from which The Doors got their name. Huxley goes so far into the topics he talks about that just trying to understand it is trippy. He explains his theories on different worlds and the way he portrays his beliefs makes this book a great book to read while high. If you're interested in reading about the effects of conciousness of some hard core drugs that I can't mention, then I suggest reading this. He describes his experiences clearly, calling himself a 'guinea pig' for this new drugs being researched at the time (1950's). In order to understand this book you have to be able to open you're mind to new ideas and just imagine the worlds that this guy describes so perfectly.

Yeah I'm reading "Breaking Open the Head" by Daniel Pinchbeck and it's really good but he mentions Huxley quite a bit and refers to "Doors of Perception" even more so that's definitely next on my list....glad to know it's a good read.

I read it after I tried some off-topic fungus. I don't know if people who haven't done off-topic psychedelics fully understand it, but to me SO much of what I read could be related to my own experience. I knew exactly what he was talking about. Same deal with Heaven and Hell. Both pieces came in the same book.

yea man i loved that book. it seems to me that he made up a few words. not like complete new words just added things to existing words. i remember a few extra "er"'s on some words.

I'm pretty fascinated with LSD (only tired it once though) and I love reading Wikiquote on Timothy Leary and Huxley. Those two seem to go hand in hand. I've been reading a lot of books this summer from my own self-made reading list, and I should read The Doors of Perception before September

I read that book and loved it. It completely rocked my world. I'm currently reading Pinchbeck's new one, 2012 The Return of Quetzacoatl, and it is a blast. Breaking Open The Head radically altered my perspective on EVERYTHING. A ground breaking, life changing book in my experience.
