i sure as hell hope that im not the only one here geeky enough to enjoy comics, so i was thinking that we could start a thread on some good comics, and the one that are even more fun while stoned are a great bonus.

any thoughts?

jim woodring... he's famous for "Frank" (cf. my avatar) but did a lot of great stuff.

erik kriek is a dutch artist who does "gutsman"! it's great! but you'll never find it -- well cept for solutions in amsterdam, or you can get it online from lambiek store.

dam there are a ton of really good comics... for a one-stop cross section check out the latest mcsweeny's... "McSweeney's Quarterly Concern Issue 13," in fine bookstores now.

another one: "ed the happy clown" by chester brown. omigod, i know a lot of you guys would flip out reading that stoned. i am not ****ting you. if you live in a proper city check it out at your local comix store! or get it online. it's very bizarro.

i used to be obsessed with c&h. i had a "stuffed" (only in literal, physical sense) dog that was like my hobbes.

one of my fav small time books is johnny raygun. you'd never find it outside of new england (or previews catalog, but idk if its still in there), but its great, a light, fun superhero/spy comic. i once met the guys who make it, and they're friends with erik larson.

btw, if i'm ever in amsterdam, i think i'll be too busy spending money on other stuff then gutsman. no offense, of course

you can get gutsman via mailorder, unlike the other stuff. not that i'm saying you should go out of your way like that. just, for people into "alternative" comics (e.g. published by fantagraphics, drawn & quarterly, etc.), gutsman is really good, very funny, and excellent when stoned
