| I had this English class this last semester on Native American literature. It was absolutely amazing, and I found the class a lot more enjoyable (and relateable) than any of my other classes of the semester. The books we read absolutely crushed my mind (in a good way). If you're at all familiar with the native american "circular vision" style of writing, then I think you'll enjoy these books (listed at the end). If you're not familiar with it, then some of these books are going to be somewhat confusing in their structure, as they don't follow a linear "rising action, climax, falling action" set up. Anywho, if you want a truly unique and amazing experience, check out: "Solar Storms" by Linda Hogan (probably my favorite. If you like this one, check out "Power" also by Linda Hogan) "Tracks" - Louise Erdrich If you like those two, you might also like: "Black Eagle Child" - Ray Young Bear

| thanks for the suggestions. I put a hold on "tracks" at my library. i'll get back to you when i finish it. any Kurt Vonnegut fans out there? he has an interesting perspective (kind of grim, but in a humorous fashion). I would recommend Cat's Cradle or Slaughterhouse-Five if you wanted to try out any of his books.

| I actually just finished reading Slaughterhouse Five last week and throughly enjoyed it. He kind of puts a dark humor on Wars, but at the same time makes you realize how destructive and painful it is. Anyone have any other recommendations of good books by him? Back to the topic, I'm not familiar with the Native American style of writing. How does it differ than the traditional style? ![]()

Back on topic, I'll have to check those books out. I've always been slightly intrigued with Native American culture in general, so I'll have to visit my local library and look for the suggested works. ![]() | |
