Default Posicles are for the summer

Well I need to choose a novel to do my English final project on and I need some suggestions. The teacher would prefer it to be an acclaimed book rather than a nonamer... and also nothing but authors who fit into the category of Tom Clancy, John Grisham, or Danielle Steele. Yea so suggestions would be appreciated; tell me the book, tell me what you thought about it etc.

I'm pretty sure this will have no replies but that's cool cause I like the privacy.

Ok so...

THREAD MOVED TO BOOKS

just making sure the mods are earning their title.

Speaking of titles, is with the title of this thread

Read Into Thin Air or Into the Wild both by John Krakauer. the first book is a personal account of Krakauer's attempt to summit mount evest. the second book is about a boy who trades away his life to live in an abandoned school bus in the woods of Alaska.

edit: i was wondering what was with the title...i know its a joke from mitch hedbergs stand up routine, but it still makes no sense here

Anything by Carl Hiaason, its soooo funny, you won't even mind reading.
John Grisham's A Painted House, it's totally different than his others, it's my favorite.

Umm huge correction to my original post that is too important for a simple edit...

I meant nothing BY authors that fit into the category of clancy etc. Not nothing but them, which is the opposite of what I want.

Read Hitchhikers guide to the Galaxy... actually, read the first two books together. Very good books, its a social satire disguised as a fantasy/science fiction book (I dont know why it would be called science fiction... no science really, it just takes place in space) The books are fun and easy to read, highly addictive too. If you look on the National Institute on Drug Abuse, you will see on their list of highly addictive substances, HitchHikers guide to the galaxy is more than 2x as addictive as heroin.

Great books -

- The Beach (Alex Garland): just like the movie that came out a few years ago with Leo di Caprio, but the book is MUCH better...lots of stuff to work on with regards to literature, too, all that imagery, irony, symbolism jazz...probably my highest recommendation for an English paper
- The Kite Runner
- White Oleander
- Memoirs Of A Geisha
- The Giver
- The Collector
- Fight Club (also a good pick, with its emasculation of men theme, etc...)
- Cry, The Beloved Country
- The Dharma Bums

READ AMERICAN GODS...

Aweosme book about everything you could possibly imagine. It was witten by Neil Gaiman who also has written a few graphic novels like the sandman series and even has recenly made a movie called mirror mask which I have yet to see.

Either way, great book. I tried to make it last because good books are hard to come by around here but I ended up reading the 587 page book in a day. It sucked, now I'm out of things to read again.

Tha beach is such a great book, i've read it three times...and will probably start it again tonite cuz of you, thanks Banzai.
My sis in law gives memoirs of a geisha a great review, but I haven't checked it out yet. Fight club is great, but some of his other books are better.
Always...ALWAYS check out shit that Neil Gaiman has done...that man is a GENIUS!!
