| So many greats: Christine, The Stand, Eyes of the Dragon, The Long Walk and Rage (by Richard Bachman), Pet Sematary, It, The Talisman (with Peter Straub), The Shining, The Dead Zone, Many of the Stories in Skeleton Crew, especially the Monkey, many of the stories in Night Shift. I know I'm leaving out a few. And of course the Dark Tower Series. Not a single one of the movie adaptations does any justice to his writing, and the movies have mistakenly identified him to those who do not read his books as a creator of cheap, shallow gore and fright. Such as the clown in IT; such a large part of the movie, but just a very small and metaphorical part of the novel. He's an extremely talented writer. His books and stories have always been great more for their intense detail and character development than for any true gore or shcok value. His fantasy works clearly illustrate this. Oh, and of course, the novel Carrie. And Firestarter. All of the movies based on his stories are entertaining, but they are cheap and shallow representations of the actual story and deeper themes within. That being said, Shawshank Redemption, as a film, is an amazing piece of film making. Alright, gonna go shower now. |

| I think i would have to say my favorite individual book is insomnia, that was the first king book that i read and made me read more of his work. However the best piece of work i think he has compiled would have to be the dark tower series. If you haven't read the dark tower books yet you definitely should. |

| I love the book "Insomnia". In my opinion, it was a great read even though it was 800 pages long or so... The descriptions of the environment and the plot line were just amazing in my eyes...

sorry i hate it :P It just becomes way too preachy, though admittedly i'm not a huge king fan in general. He does have a really cool writing style and i agree that he develops the plot really well.

Everybody's opinion is different... in some ways ![]() Maybe I liked it because near the middle/end of the book, it became a huge acid trip ![]() I just realized.. Sorry for the off topic substance remark -----------------------^ Last edited by RyanB : 01-31-2009 at 01:42 AM.

| Tommyknockers Insomnia Desperation The Langoliers Not in any particular order.

It was inevitable that they should make that claim sooner or later: the logic of their position demanded it. And what was terrifying was not that they would kill you for thinking otherwise, but that they might be right. For, after all, how do we know that two and two make four? Or that the force of gravity works? Or that the past is unchangeable? If both the past and the external world exist only in the mind, and if the mind itself is controllable what then?" |

| a bit off topic but.... I was baked this afternoon and was thinking about how mj is used for to treat insomnia and i couldn't help think about Ralph Roberts. (Protagonist from the novel Insomnia). He should have been puffing on some weed, just think how trippy it would have been seeing peoples "life auras" and doing all that other stuff he gets up to when he was really baked. ![]() |

| I actually just finished my first book by him and have started on my second. The first one was Tommy Knockers and the second one is Salem's Lot. I enjoyed the first one, although King seemed to go into detail a little too much on things that weren't important to the plot. Is this something he does or was it just like that in the first book I read? |

He does usually go into great detail but i find it is usually fairly relevant to the plot and does not take anything away from then book.
