Im in school for Paleontology,thats dinosaurs for those who didnt know.I have my own small library of books on the subject.I recently got a book called"The Mistaken Extinction" that discuss's the relation ship between birds and dinosaurs.As it turns out they both share over 90% of anatomical skeleton features.Even the giant long necked creatures share these features with birds and I know how hard that might seem to beleive but it is infact true.The most recent discoveries from China,Mongolia,Africa,and South America show something remarkable.Feathers! Yes feathers,two different kinds no less.Fuzzy down feathers like on baby birds of today used for insulation have been found on over 30 species of dinos and thier young.The well know "Raptor" family of dinos have been found with true flight feathers like you see on eagles and hawks.Even small relatives of T-REX have been found with these feathers on the legs,arms and tails.So when you see birds in your yard or the woods,remember that the dinosaurs arent really "extinct" they just evolved to deal with the changes that faced them.Also T-REX is no longer the largest carnivorous dinosaur.While it was a huge animal coming in at 40 feet long,20 feet tall and up to 8 tons it had competition from animal half the world away(TREX is found in North America) First we Giganotosaurus from South America,this animal was a true monster coming in at 42-46 feet long,25 feet tall but a bit lighter than TREX.Next we have Carcharodontosaurus from Africa.This animal would have been very scary in real life.It was very close in size to its Southern realative but the skull was much bigger than both of its cousins at around 6 feet long! This thing could have swallowed me whole(im 6'2)the teeth resemble giant shark teeth but are much longer and slimmer.There are about 20 species of TREX of different sizes and shapes.TREX is not related to its giant cousins,those two came from a totally different family related to the smaller (35 feet) Allosaurus.If you want more info go to "the dinosaur society.com)I forgot I very important thing.These are NOT big slow stupid reptiles.Feathers of any kind mean one important thing.Warm blooded,like mammals and birds not like reptiles who are coldblooded.We know this from a fossilized heart which is built like birds and mammals which means..fast,smart,deadly preadtors with a mouth full of flat steak knives for cutting flesh and thick railroad spike for crunching bones.This area of science is changing all the time and new discoveries are made every week.This what I plan on doing for the rest of my life,as I love it so much.
