I have questions about the hippie...I know there are some of you out there...

    - Where did the hippie originate from?

    - Were the Beatles the first hippies?

The beatles were not the first hippies :)

The hippy, in my opinion originated from the beatnik. It was from the whole beat culture that kind of spawned the hippie.

It was just a step up, a little more peaceful, a little different use of drugs, music. Bam. I'm pretty sure it originated in San Fransisco. Freak subculture town

Hmm. Try and search around. I believe the answer should be there

It was just a little fun message. I get bored.

:chokin: Whats a stoner to do.

Zoltron, thank you for mentioning the pranksters. You on the bus?

You have any idea where to find pranksters music? Sheesh. Sure I live in one of the more conservative provinces, but it sure is tricky without ordering anything.

    Still alive & well!

As much as I hate to admit, beats is right about hippies being an offshoot of the 'beatnik'...same philosophy, different style & era...Neil Cassidy (Jack Kerouac's buddy) was probably one of the 1st to make the transition...he went from 'On The Road' to 'on the bus' with the Merry Pranksters (THE original hips) while Kerouac was still really into booze (died around 'late 40s' from alcohol). I would guess that the Pranksters started it all!:D

The Pranksters used to play with The Grateful Dead, but I've never heard any of their music, just The Dead's. ;)

Yah. Those acid tests. Major dead prankster fun I'm supposing.

Its really hard to find prankster music though. I tried stores and the internet so far. Nothing. I did hear part of an acid test recording and the pranksters were unbelieveably awesome.

There mentioned alot with the dead. Them and quicksilver. Quicksilver is so cool :)

    saw them in concert!

My friends & I went to the Chicago Stadium & saw Quicksilver Messenger Service (full name) with Lee Michaels, & the band Free (Fire & Water)...3 bands, price was $4.50!

i don't know what you all are talking about but here is what i know.

hippies never used the term, hippie for themselves.

the media/newspaper made the word up.

    the beatles, are good musicians.

Hmmmm. I think beatniks were first. But don't hold me to it.
